Rest assured, if it's a government program, it is philosophically on the side of the Democrats.
Well, the Dems want to get rid of it and replace it with a commercial solution. Free market and all that. The Reps, e.g. Shelby from Alabama are against it. Why? Because of the money for their states.
That the whole thing will never lead anywhere, is years behind schedule and more expensive than anticipated does not bother these Republican spenders even the slightiest bid. Why? Because they benefit from the programme! Guess what? They are just like the Dems when it comes to government money. Just the same! They just want to spend it on things that are good for them, which usualy conflicts with what is good for the Dems.
All the same if you ask me..
Skipjack, you keep trying to shift blame by pointing fingers at republicans as if that implicates myself and Diogenes and MSimon, when it doesn't. We have possibly as much disgust with republicans as we do with democrats. The only distinction we generally find is that democrats, socialists, and others on the left are more consistently evil in putting their ideology ahead of human lives and happiness, whereas the republicans generally are averse to you making yourself feel happy unless it is properly by earning a bunch of dough and spending it on booze, trophy wives, expensive cars and boats and airplanes and firearms, or merely donating it to whatever charity makes you happy.
And yes, they like to blow our money on big weapons programs and law enforcement. Last time I checked those were actually required by the Constitution. Odd that they happen to stick to their oaths of office...
And yes, we were right there commenting at the front of the line when we saw republicans sticking up for the socialist Constellation program and laughed rolling around on the floor seeing Obama suggest a free market solution for the space program that he would never suggest for our health care system.

Well, both things did not work well in their original implementation. Obama did what anyone with the mindset would do. He hit the break and proposed an alternative system.
Also, dont get me wrong, there are a lot of things even in the old US social system that I felt were unneeded. A government run pension programme, e.g.
I also dont see the need for a wellfare system. Exception are people that are unable to work due to severe injuries, or illness. But anyone who is healthy can work. Period. I am the prime example that even with a severe heart attack, you can go and do at least some limited work two weeks later. Personally I dont see any need for retirement at all, unless the person in question is to sick to work anymore.

Speaking of which, do you think it's a good idea to get into discussions around here? To some, it can be "stressful".
