Sometimes I wonder if people like Cuomo aren;'t pushing band like this specifically to get a violent response from some gun owners in order to discredit them as a group. The odds of someone somewhere reacting violently toward the move to make illegal certain items that have always been legal, is pretty predictable. I will be very surprised if this goes through if there aren't a handful of people shoot up the Governor's mansion. then we have newscasts about the crazy NRA people starting a civil war, etc.; and nothing to say why.
It can only get worse.

Perhaps that is the idea but I believe in the saying by Napolean of never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity or incompetence. That along with Occam's Razor another personal favorite:GIThruster wrote:Sometimes I wonder if people like Cuomo aren;'t pushing band like this specifically to get a violent response from some gun owners in order to discredit them as a group. Could be. If you'll recall, it was CNN's Anderson Cooper who led the Trayvon Martin fiasco by editing the audio of the police recording and promoting this notion that Zimmerman had used a racial slur. Until that time there was nothing unusual about the case and the police had not pressed charges. It was CNN that fabricated this event for ratings.
IIRC, CNN is owned by Ted Turner, who is a notorious gun control advocate despite he has them in his house and has shot people for pool hopping in his back yard. Crazy. . .

I dunno. Would it?
I think Turner's father killed himself with a handgun when Turner was very young or some such. Not so odd he hates guns. I do recall though, some story with someone sneaking into his back yard uninvited and he shot them with a .22 pistol which he has a license for. He should have gone to prison. CA does not have laws that allow lethal force unless you are in immanent danger and it's pretty hard to show such danger against someone in your swimming pool. Even in states like Oregon that allow lethal force in defense of property don't allow you to shoot people for pool hopping.

I remember them from the '70's the world system was supposed to collapse by 2000 or so if not sooner. Dr Paul Ehrlich said the battle to feed humanity is over, China would be toast by the aforementioned date. Also said something about he thought he would take even money that England wouldn't be around by 2000 as well. Yet he and the club of rome in some circles are still regarded as visionary.choff wrote:Would that be the same Club of Rome Ted Turner who advocates large scale population reduction?

As per example our current banking crisis would have devastated our eCommerce totally if the bailout and unemployment extensions were not added. China would have overpopulated itself if the rule of two and true supporters have only one campaign did not happen.
we have the power to avert these mega disasters if we choose, the only question is: Will we?

In order, they were Utterly corrupt and without moral compass,(Clinton) Idiot,(Carter) and naive fool,(Kennedy) respectively. None of them caused much concern regarding the possibility that they would become a dictator. This guy we have now is definitely trying for it.
Stubby wrote: I am sure those pictures of communist dictators with children were used in propaganda campaigns for gun control.. You always throw random stuff out there expecting people to believe it without question.
What you shouldn't believe without question is the crap your University Professors keep feeding you.

And you somehow think that getting a picture of George Bush (Whom i've personally met, and didn't think much of at the time) with Jesse Jackson Jr.'s (Another Democrat under investigation for corruption.) Children is the equivalent of purposely using Children to push a political agenda?
Pray tell what agenda was George W Bush pushing with Jessie Jackson Jr's Children?

And see how you attempt to mislead? This picture looks like George HW Bush (Whom I didn't and don't like either. He was the WORST mistake Reagan ever made.) at some school event, not even a sort of press conference, but merely a picture snapped in passing when everyone wasn't even attempting to pose.
Yeah, that's exactly the same thing as the Malicious and intentional utilization of Children as political props in an attempt to seize more power and control. Yup, completely the same thing.
And now for a little musical interlude.

Hmmm..... Now where have I seen this sort of behavior before?

Don't tell me.... It'll come to me....

There's no doubt the gun control folks are willing to exploit children to get what they want. I saw an add the other day that used about a dozen 4-5 year olds pleading for gun control.
As if a 5 year-old could even understand the consequences of any law? Seriously, these emotional appeals to the stupidest people in our society need to stop. they demonstrate pure contempt for those whom they target and someone needs to make this obvious.

And lest you think that it was a bizarre outlier, here's another one.

Imagine an America
Where strip mines are fun and free
Where gays can be fixed
And sick people just die
And oil fills the sea
We don’t have to pay for freeways!
Our schools are good enough
Give us endless wars
On foreign shores
And lots of Chinese stuff
We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we’re kinda blaming you
We haven’t killed all the polar bears
But it’s not for lack of trying
The Earth is cracked
Big Bird is sacked
And the atmosphere is frying
Congress went home early
They did their best we know
You can’t cut spending
With elections pending
Unless it’s welfare dough
We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we’re kinda blaming you
Find a park that is still open
And take a breath of poison air
They foreclosed your place
To build a weapon in space
But you can write off your au pair
It’s a little awkward to tell you
But you left us holding the bag
When we look around
The place is all dumbed down
And the long term’s kind of a drag
We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And yeah, we’re blaming you
You did your best
You failed the test
Mom and Dad
We’re blaming you!

We are entering an ugly period in American History. Guns and bullets are flying off the shelves because people are very very alarmed about this guy. A lot of us don't even think he really won the election. We think big City Democrat machines faked the numbers in the urban areas of Key states. We have become a banana Republic.

Even if what you fear is true, you need to have some sort of evidence before breathing such objections aloud. Presuming some nameless group has defrauded the entire election system is paranoid enough to discredit your other positions.
Before you ever breathe charges like this, you need to have evidence. Look at how the Birthers have been marginalized and there is excellent evidence OBama was not born in this country. His parents can't agree where he was born. His grandmother says he was born in Kenya. He has never produced a real birth certificate. And yet he's been elected twice. If he can get away with all that, you need some SERIOUS evidence before breathing a word about election fraud.

Still don't agree Obama has the chops (or intention) to become a dictator, he just doesn't command enough respect from the military and law enforcement. His cult of personality might work (assuming that’s what he is really trying to do) if the country were 70% non-white, but he isn’t Hitler appealing to a majority ethnic/racial group he was a member of while demonizing a convenient minority. I think his gun control efforts will backfire, as witnessing guns flying off the shelf’s. He has actually inadvertently done more to energize pro-gun people than anything else would. Gun ownership had actually been on the decline for decades, but has actually soared in the last few years. His demonizing of the NRA is already failing, membership has soared since he started it. My biggest concern other than the insane debt he will leave us is the legacy of his attempt to rule by executive order. Law works on precedent, and his will be a huge expansion of the breath of presidential executive power. Building on the legacy of Clinton and Bush junior, who were no slouches using presidential orders. Rather than fearing necessarily a single dictator, a gradual transformation of us to an authoritarian quasi-democracy where people vote, different talking heads hold office, but the same groups of party bosses on both sides rule, and it makes little difference in policies. That's why I voted Libertarian in the last election, the only thing that will stop this concentration of power is a new party which doesn't have a vested interest in the current system.Diogenes wrote:GIThruster wrote:There's no doubt the gun control folks are willing to exploit children to get what they want. I only made a short review but it doesn't seem there are any violations in the 23 measures OBama wants to enable to support gun control. It will take some time to tease out.
People don't understand that one cannot make law with an executive order. One can only order executive agencies in this way. If OBama orders all intelligence agencies to share background info so we have better checking for weapons sales, that's his right. What he can't do is order private insurance companies to discriminate based on whether a person has a gun in their home--something he'd dearly love to do and that people need to keep an eye on.
Most of the 23 points are just window glossing or common sense. It is the fact POTUS is willing to take a stand that Blue Senators cannot that is alarming. Even in blue states, gun control is extremely unpopular. If Harry Reid were to champion gun control he'd lose his job. But there are sneakier, more sinister ways for people to pursue their hidden agendas that circumvent the will of the people. How the government influences private industry such as the insurance industry, is a big deal. This is where people need to focus their attention.
Most of the 23 points are distraction. A few have real consequences.
