I'll pick on Clinton this time.

On the news tonight:

http://fortune.com/2016/08/24/apple-tim ... r-clinton/

"Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will visit Northern California on Wednesday and hold a fundraiser hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Tickets to attend will cost donors from $2,700 to $50,000, according to Buzzfeed."

But that set off an alarm bell for me ... I'd just read another headline:

http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-ta ... ion-2016-8

That headline is a little misleading: "Apple could be on the hook for $19 billion in taxes, and the Obama administration is livid."

One would think that means the Obama administration is livid because Apple has not paid the US $19 billion with a B in taxes. But the tax bill is from the EU, which thinks a huge stash of profits Apple has in Ireland is taxable there. The US Treasury is siding with Apple!?? Never mind that the whole deal is, in fact, a tax shelter on money that really ought to be taxed here.

So, no wonder Tim Cook wants Hillary, 'cause she's "beholdin" to Wall Street, and an extension of the administration siding with him on this tax dodge.

But Trump is dirty on this, too, as he is on the record (in fact, proud of) having bribed ... uh, I mean given large contributions to Hillary in the past. And evades taxes proudly.

They are a pair of bookends, two crooks mirroring each other across the fence, one selling and one buying. Trump has paid to play for decades.

Mind you, what Cook wants is reasonable tax rates. And if he wants that he should be fundraising for Johnson.

I think the difference lays in the Trump has said he has done it, and it should be changed, as it is not to the benefit of the country. Thus his claim being, 'I know how that stuff works, and therefore I know what to target for change'. Now, whether he does seek change is another thing. Hillary is certain to not only not seek change, but to probably increase opportunity for folks who live in that world, and thus gain influence and power via them.

Hillary is the poster child of what is wrong with the system, and a desire to take it even further into the toilet for her own gain.
While Trump admits to benefitting from the broken system, he has also stated he wants to change it. I want him to break it.

Nice summary, thanks for sharing. Hadn't seen it.

I do not see how anyone could compare the corruption of Hillary Clinton and her history of governmental abuse of power to Trump's business practices in the City of New York.

I always assumed that to operate in New York, you had to play by New York rules, and I have no illusions about New York following the boy scout handbook. It's a tough city.

That bribery, or coercion, or favor trading, or "donations" or "sweet talking" is the cost of doing business in New York, I have little doubt.

Okay Tom...I will see your nutjob and raise you a nutjob; albeit one easier on the eyes:

Former Minnesota Rep. and Donald Trump's evangelical adviser Michele Bachmann said that Donald Trump was "raised up" by God to win in the general election.

"This is one thing I know from the Book of Daniel: the bottom line of the Book of Daniel is this: it teaches us that the most high God lifts up who He will and takes down who he will," she said in an interview with The Brody File that was released on Tuesday.

For God's sake, keep these two nut jobs apart! They might breed!

As for better looking, one could go with Palin. At least as nutty but far funnier.

Looks like Trump's Latino supporters are abandoning him in droves today. As are Enrique Pena Nieto's Latino supporters.

Donald Trump Sizzles in Foreign, Defense Policy Speech: ‘I Will Never Let You Down’

Image

And he called for a development of a new “state of the art missile defense system,” a policy priority that has been worse than ignored by Obama and Clinton. Trump said:

Under Obama-Clinton, our ballistic missile defense capability has been degraded at the very moment the US and its allies are facing a heightened missile threat from states like Iran and North Korea. As these potential adversaries grow their missile programs, US military facilities in Asia and the Middle East, as well as our allies, are increasingly in range, with the United States homeland also potentially threatened. We propose to rebuild the key tools of missile defense, starting with the Navy cruisers that are the foundation of our missile defense capabilities in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The Obama-Clinton administration tried repeatedly to remove our cruisers from service, then refused to modernize these aging ships. We will start by modernizing our cruisers to provide the Ballistic Missile Defense capability our nation needs; this will cost around $220 million per modernization as we seek to modernize a significant portion of these 22 ships. As we expand our Navy toward the goal of 350 ships, we will also procure additional modern destroyers that are designed to handle the missile defense mission in the coming years.

Well, this was awkward.

My wife and I attended a fundraiser for the local soil and water conservation district tonight. Rubber chicken, but local rubber chicken, and corn and squash and apples and everything else, donated by local farms.

So who do they plop down in the chair next to me? The county's Republican Chairman, Corey Stewart. I used to get his newsletters until he threw his support to Trump early in the primary process, whereupon I unsubscribed. Kinda un-levels the playing field, I thought, particularly as this was Rubio country (Rubio was within 2% of Trump in VA in the primary, and Northern Virginia favored him heavily).

After ignoring the Trump conversation, I did find an opening with a discussion of Virginia gubernatorial traditions, which includes a local Indian tribe that makes a big fuss out of presenting the Governor with a gift of food each fall. I'd noticed Stewart had barely touched his chicken. He said he enjoyed summertime gatherings better as they usually had barbecue. He and the guy next to him had been talking about a previously bipartisan food ritual, now gone heavily Democratic, in which the main point seems to be to get the Governor to eat chitlins. Most just kind of poke at them with a fork.

So we talked about local beer and whiskey, on which there was amicable agreement (all in favor), and that got around to the distillery at Mount Vernon and some other related lore. After a few minutes discussing history, I pretty much concluded he doesn't know any. Among the deficits, he had no idea the Cherokee were originally from North Carolina, and that they'd actually assimilated pretty well into the white man's ways. I mentioned that the Supreme Court had sided with them and said they had the right to stay, but that Jackson had said "The Supreme Court does not have an army." I then leveled a look at him and said, "I can see Trump saying that."

He laughed and agreed.

At least we can agree on local ales and good bourbon.

During the primaries Trump had a problem with his mouth frequently getting ahead of his brain. His recent speeches, in contrast, he's sounding (dare I say it) presidential.
The daylight is uncomfortably bright for eyes so long in the dark.

Addendum:

Clinton has health 'episode' at 9/11 memorial, doctor says she has pneumonia
Hillary Clinton appeared to stagger and faint in footage showing her early exit from a 9/11 commemoration ceremony on Sunday, though Clinton's doctor said the episode was a result of heat and dehydration -- and revealed she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days prior.

The Democratic presidential nominee fell on her way into her van and had to be helped by her security, according to witnesses and video of her leaving. She was “clearly having some type of medical episode," a law enforcement source told Fox News.

After more than an hour of radio silence, Clinton's campaign issued a statement saying the former Secretary of State "felt overheated," and later Sunday issued another release blaming the episode on pneumonia and dehydration.
