There's no doubt of this, but if sugar were as addictive as cocaine, we'd see people prostituting themselves to get hold of Snickers, and all sugar prices would be 1,000X what they are.

Seriously, people who believe this about Oreos need to get out into the real world a bit.

People prostituting themselves for sugar? All you have to do to get that is to make sugar scarce and expensive. So far the experiment has not been done. But we could pass a LAW. That should do the trick.

We do know from the experience of Germany immediately post WW2 that women will prostitute themselves for tobacco. So it is not unreasonable to assume:

Tobacco = cocaine.

Why is tobacco still legal?

Learn about sugar!

Replace the Oreo with any sugary target and I am sure the results would have been the same.
Sugar is not as addictive as cocaine but it is everywhere.
from the videos:
of the 600 000 foodstuffs available in supermarkets, 80% contain added sugars.
Then there is the salt problem. In me - too much salt causes internal bleeding. Alcohol is even worse for me than salt in that respect. Why is alcohol legal? It is a very dangerous drug.

And salt? It is added to just about everything.

Salt is toxic but it is not addictive.
Sugar is toxic AND it is addictive and it is added to almost everything we eat.

Most plant substances are toxic in one way or another. plants don't like being eaten. Animal have adapted to the toxins and even enjoy some, like glucose. The fact is that we need glucose to live. Some people believe the most stupid things and get fanatical about them. They go around yelling and screaming about how whatever is "the end of the world" and "we're all going to die!!!!" Well get over it, we ARE all going to die. It's the price we pay for life. the only thing you can do is enjoy life and laugh while it lasts. So it doesn't really matter what sugar or for that matter Cocaine does, we've all got a terminal disease. It's called life.

Ok no pity for your future legless diabetic ass.
Did you watch the videos?

Yes we need glucose. Regular sugar (sucrose) is only ~50% glucose with the rest being fructose.
How much glucose do we need?
What happens to the excess glucose in your body?
What happens to the fructose?

I bet you didn't watch.

That's the problem with fanaticism replacing reason. Fanatics will lock on to a hero and refer to the hero as the fount of all knowledge. What they can't see is that others don't even know who the hero is, and those references are just examples of the appeal to authority fallacy. That means they keep spreading the same hokum without acknowledging that the trap they have put themselves in has just made them irrelevant to the discussion. You are so locked into your sugar kick that you can't even see that your whole diatribe is irrelevant to a discussion on the proper use of scientific methods. Furthermore you seem to have missed the fact that nobody but you cares about your sugar fix.

Just so you know if you have too little salt you will die. If you're in the desert and you sweat too much it's a race between dehydration and sunstroke. That's why Gatorade is mandatory when you're working out in the sun.

And your entire body runs on sugar; not refined sucrose like you get at the store, but only a transition or two away from it. Glucose. Most fruits contain sugar; and I mean things like squash, beets, and tomatoes too. So does milk.

Too much salt will give you high blood pressure. Too much sugar will give you diabetes. Moderation is a virtue.

In a world where people do not merely attempt to but succeed in eating 50 hot dogs to celebrate labor day, nothing surprises me any more. I just stick to my old ways. I will never attempt to eat a cake shaped like a horse. Just sayin'. Just a little sushi thanks and a small bowl of rice.

Just sayin'.
