When the little startup controls company I worked for allowed itself to be swallowed by a whale, the very next day we found red-white-and-black proclamations on the doors declaring what was considered contraband. I forget the exact wording, but I believe it mentioned "illegal weapons, knives ...". My interpretation was that my Swiss Army Knife is a legal knife. Furthermore, the company would probably collapse if engineers did not have pocket knives.
The legal department must have had too little to do that day.
The actual written company policy is aimed at violence or the threat of it, but includes "... or attempts to bring a weapon to work shall be subject to disciplinary action up to and including discharge."
I carried a Scout knife in high school. For a shop class I made a leather case for my pellet rifle, and my shop instructor said I should just bring it in to make the pattern for it. I thought that was weird. The cadets had rifles for target practice and their drill team.

Relates several incidents of little kids punished harshly for harmless "gun related" stuff.
Way to go if you intend to encourage contempt for rules and authority.

Or this is a moment of brilliance
Hunter Spanjer, 3, is deaf.
When he signs his name, he makes a gesture that is in violation of Grand Island, Nebraska's "Weapons in Schools" policy, school officials claim, as his hands appear to mimic a gun.
