Actually it is the FDA and DEA that decide in the US. And they are wrong. I'm sorry. It happens.
They may very well be. We don't get to decide when they are wrong, either. (not individually anyways.)
I'm befuddled as to why you say it's strictly federal when you have the case of California, and the newly occurring case of Colorado. (Also caused by toking Californians who moved there.)

Actually i'm the one always criticizing "Argumentum ad Verecundiam". I'm also always criticizing our Authorities, so I don't know how you can claim I am an "appeal to authority guy." I just happen to think that regulating dangerous substances is a legitimate role of government.
