Well what is the current "context"? It's the holiday season. Tempers are shorter, lines longer and traffic is the worst compared to any other time of the year. People have family issues forced to the fore and in general, there is more depression than at any other time in the Northern hemisphere.
The context is, the days are shorter, the nights are blacker, the wind is colder and we need a reminder of the promise of life. We need to celebrate amongst all the melancholy. That's why so many cultures in the northern hemisphere invented mid-winter holiday celebrations, which were all nicely tied up later as christian holidays, and then that holiday itself too was redefined to include Santa, and Rudolph and Frosty and trees and presents and lights and finally as result of just how transient we've become as a society, the theme of family reunion. Christmas has always been about more than Christ, and there's no need for Christians to keep it to themselves. Its for everyone who needs to celebrate amidst the cold.
That's the proper context to this tragedy. So grieve with those who grieve and morn with those who morn, recognize there is a proper time for everything and try to get back to thinking on those issues for which you're personally grateful. And if it helps, have a holiday flash mob.
