The Navy Bought Fake Chinese Microchips That Could Have Disarmed U.S. Missiles

Wired reports the chips weren't only low-quality fakes, they had been made with a "back-door" and could have been remotely shut down at any time.

I wonder what type of IC are and what the backdoor was.
Most of the fake Chineese IC out there are Microcontrollers and USB controllers, but you cannot recognize the difference until you take a photo of the die.

It's not just microchips...

The other day I was trying to attach some Chinese-made cabinet hardware (the only kind sold in 5 local hardware stores) with a large variety of US-made Phillips-, Reed&Prince- and Pozidriv-style screwdrivers.

Not a single one of the US-made screwdrivers would grip the Chinese-made screws well enough to drive them into wood.

Then I dug out a cheap, Chinese-made screwdriver as a last resort. It gripped the screws like they were welded on.

It takes some serious, precise engineering design and tolerancing to make screws that work so poorly with US-made tools yet work so perfectly with Chinese-made tools.

Multiply this by tens of millions of people and products across the US and the economic damage becomes significant.

World War III is already underway, in stealth mode.
