Denialists, skeptics, warners and alarmists...

Post by Luzr »

I found this interesting:

http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/brand09 ... index.html
If climate change were to suddenly reverse itself (because of some yet undiscovered mechanism of balance in our climate system), my guess is that the denialists would be triumphant, the skeptics would be skeptical this time of the apparent good news, the warners would be relieved, and the calamatists would seek out some other doom to proclaim.

If climate change keeps getting worse then I would expect denialists to grasp at stranger straws, many skeptics to become warners, the warners to start pushing geoengineering schemes like sulfur dust in the stratosphere, and the calamatists to push liberal political agendas — just as the denialists said they would.

One wishes they might push "liberal" agenda, but what they will push is authoritarian (Democratic) agenda.

Explains why the left has to be authoritarian or worse.

When you see the only solutions proposed involving taxationfor the purpose of supposedly building wind farms and solar power plants...

And then see the plants cancelledso unspoiled desert vistas may be maintained -

When we're told there's a crisis and we must act now to limit CO2 emissions...

And the folks pushing the idea take private jets to Copenhagen in the middle of a blizzard -

When one of the people instrumental in pushing the AGW wagon owns part of a carbon-credit trading organization...

And Carbon Trading is implicated in a whole lot of fraud -

You start to wonder just how much of a 'crisis' there actually is.

Yes, they say the warming is a problem - but they're not exactly acting like it, are they? I'll believe there's a crisis when they actually start trying to remediate it, instead of doing business as usual. When the emphasis is on cutting carbon instead of raising taxes - and when the money thrown out at 'alternative' energy sources don't just go to the politically correct or connected.

Until then? They've still got a lot of convincing to do!
When opinion and reality conflict - guess which one is going to win in the long run.

When the money thrown out at 'alternative' energy sources don't require carbon fueled back up plants.

This is classic from the post above:
This is arguably the best solar land in the world, and Senator Feinstein shouldn’t be allowed to take this land off the table without a proper and scientific environmental review,” said Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the environmentalist and a partner with a venture capital firm that invested in a solar developer called BrightSource Energy. In September, BrightSource canceled a large project in the monument area.

Well the waters off Cape Cod are the best wind area in our neighborhood, Mr. Kennedy. We all know how you feel about that.:
"AS an environmentalist, I support wind power, including wind power on the high seas. I am also involved in siting wind farms in appropriate landscapes, of which there are many. But I do believe that some places should be off limits to any sort of industrial development. I wouldn't build a wind farm in Yosemite National Park. Nor would I build one on Nantucket Sound, which is exactly what the company Energy Management is trying to do with its Cape Wind project."
