50 cents on the Petro Dollar

Post by sd_matt »

Let's say Helion pulls off 50 cents on the dollar electricity. What does this look like for the Petro Dollar, aka we keep the sea lanes open and you buy oil in dollars paradigm?

Oil will never "go away" we have too many uses for it.

First, what is “fifty cents on the dollar electricity”?
Second, “never” is a long, long time. The petro-dollar is fraying at the edges already.

I assume he meant electricity from fusion at half the price of electricity from gas, in some sense - e.g. averaged over the construction and life of both plants, including interest. I'd guess it will take two or three decades for the world to transition away from petroleum powered electricity and transportation, let alone petroleum-powered cement and fertilizer production. I think the dominance of the dollar in international finance will be affected by other things - like the obvious unreliability of recent US policies.

Hmmm. Ok. But with very cheap fusion electricity we can MAKE petrol, so we better be ready to base the dollar on something else! ;)
