Possible money laundering by moving money back and forth to bypass legal limits.
Gee....isn't this like illegal? Would think it wouldn't be legal. Sure our objective media will be all over this.DNC trying to get away with violating the Hatch Act.

Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump
The whole thing is extremely disturbing. There were some rather bizarre scenes at the DNC today as well.

Maybe the cause is ants. The crazy kind that like to eat the plastics in electronics.
Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump
The DNC is a crime syndicate. After years of getting away with it for lack of evidence to convince their victims, they're getting sloppy, brazen, and exposed.
The daylight is uncomfortably bright for eyes so long in the dark.

I just spotted a new Libertarian ticket ad. Low budget, but it made me smile.

Gary Johnson: "Give us one term, America, and if after four years you decide you don't like peace, prosperity, and freedom, you can always vote a Trump or a Hillary back into office."
And then watch Bill Weld's eyes.

Also a product of microphone placement, and good floor management. Some of those bursts of "Hill-ah-ree" that seemed to spontaneously break out from the floor were induced by designated cheerleaders, and were done to cover up the sounds of protesters.zapkitty wrote:Observation: While the boos (from a small portion of the Bernie supporters) were real they were deliberately exaggerated by mic placement.
MSNBC appears to have been the worst offender in this regard. And a lot of media went with their version.
The CNN feed carried a very different audio impression. The hecklers were present, but dwarfed by the rest of the crowd.
The last Republican convention (state level) I attended did something like it, moving us around to make sure the seats were all filled where the cameras were pointed. Alas, the cameras at that convention were not interested in the most remarkable thing at the convention, an utterly inspiring speech by Maurice Dawkins. A few old-timers may recall Dawkins as a black civil rights advocate, used to march with M L King and that bunch. Yeah, that guy. Turned Republican (although more in the Linwood Holton mold ... yeah, that Linwood Holton, Tim Caine's father in law, in a VIP box at the Democratic convention). Anyway, Dawkins had the whole crowd standing up and singing God Bless America, holding hands above their heads, and probably could have gotten them to sing "We Shall Overcome" if anyone knew the words. And it never made the news.

Oh, the DNC micro-managed everything to the point of giving groups of operatives and delegates lists of specific chants to counter equally specific lists of protester chants.Tom Ligon wrote:Also a product of microphone placement, and good floor management. Don't think both parties don't do it. This year the Democrats had to manage Bernie and the Republicans had to manage the Never Trump faction. The Republicans failed to treat The Donald unfairly enough ... he got the nomination. The Democrats successfully biased their nomination process against Bernie and it blew up in their faces, although not badly enough to cost Hillary the nomination. The organized spontaneous demonstrations are as much of the showmanship as the balloons at the end of the conventions. Since the nominee is pretty much a fait accompli by the opening of the convention, the showmanship means little.zapkitty wrote:

The real concern is the internal machinery by which the whole process happens. I watched this in the caucuses leading to the state convention I attended. The good old boys in both parties had their meetings and set up a process whereby the candidate the party establishment wanted wound up with the best organization, who managed the caucuses and got their guy thru. The Republicans (in Virginia at that time and since, actually composed of ultra-conservative Dixiecrats ousted from the party during the McGovern campaign) nominated their ultra-conservative friend of the rich and powerful. The Democrats nominated their candidate with their elitist liberal agenda. Neither one connected well with the public ... the Democrat won and he was so unmemorable I had to look him up. I don't even remember his term.
Absolutely absent in the Republican process, other than Dawkins, was any evidence that the Linwood Holton machinery still existed. Holton had been the first Republican Governor in Virginia since Reconstruction, an entire century. He revitalized the party, and got most of the black vote because he was in favor of carrying out integration of the schools and other Party of Lincoln things the Virginia was ready for but the Dixiecrats were not. He also did things like establishing a trade relationship with Spain. When the Dixiecrats were locked out of a state Democratic convention, they bolted to the Republican party and took it over, and we have not had a Republican candidate of the quality of Holton since then. He has endorsed his son in law, Caine, and I voted for Caine against a kook of a Republican gubernatorial candidate on that basis.
So here I am, sick to the stomach of both parties, fondly remembering Holton and Barry Goldwater, and planning to vote for Johnson.
My analysis is, the parties are so polarized they have accepted that they have to put forth extreme candidates in order to win the nomination, but as a result, neither candidate really stands for Middle America.
Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump
Here's an interesting little historical nugget from Virginia politics.
In 2012, a number of candidates failed to make it on the ballot for a Republican presidential primary. They failed to read the directions. The usual failing was not getting signatures on their petitions from enough areas of the state. There was a lot of squalking about it from those who failed to read the directions, but that was just tough.
The two candidates that did make the ballot were Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, who did follow the instructions and had ground troops out getting signatures statewide.
The resulting vote counts were
Romney: 158,099 59.5%
Ron Paul: 107,434 40.5%
All Others: 47 0%
Paul undoubtedly did better than he would have with more competition, but it is interesting that he did so well, against a reasonably well-liked and relatively moderate candidate. There's an underlying Libertarian streak at work here if conditions are right. Breaking down the results, Paul of course did better among the young and the educated, the very group least likely to vote for Trump.
In the latest primary here, Trump barely edged out Rubio. Cruz was a distant third. The total of Kasich and Rubio would have beat Trump handily.
Years ago, nobody cared about Virginia polling. The state was red in presidential races, and that was that. Now its a battleground state. Factors like this in Virginia and a few other states will pick the next President.
