Ok then , why did you turn the obama care thread into a drug thread then spam it under

Pretty simple - the Republicans are losing the culture war and they should give it up in order to win on the central issues.
This is emblematic of the current Party:
I don't think that would be good for the country.
I have been trying to wise up the Party for quite some time. To no avail. I guess you could say my obsession with the issue is a sign of panic. I can see the Party going over the cliff and I would like to head that off. How would I rate my chances? Very very slim and none. Rand Paul would be the Party's best shot. Except that the Party don't like its libertarian wing.
Let me add that I just got an e-mail from the American Thinker editor and he agrees with the tenor of my remarks in

I'm not the only one worried about the future of the GOP.
This is emblematic of the current Party:
And it cost the Party two Senate seats that were sure wins in 2012. If the Party hangs on to Prohibition (as it did in 1932) the Democrats will probably capitalize on it in 2016. We have 3 more years of Obama. Will we have 4 more years of Democrat executive after that? I believe so.The chairman of the Republican National Committee has called for the resignation of a Michigan GOP official who made anti-gay and anti-Muslim remarks.

Since you seem not to be concerned with liberty generically, but only pot specifically, I tend to believe you don't really care.

Good one.

Perhaps MSimon has noticed as have I, that Americans seem to have a long-standing preference for divided government. That is if the Presidency is going to be Democratic, than it might be better for all concerned to have a Republican controlled Congress (or vice-versa). Each party seems to act as a curb on the worst instincts of the other. Divided governments can be quite productive, & far safer in IMHO than one party rule is. I really don't want the dems to get back in control of the house, and wouldn't fret if they lost the Senate in 2014. This is especially true with the looming possibility (some would say probability) of a successful Hillary Clinton presidency in 2016.TDPerk wrote:"I can see the Party going over the cliff and I would like to head that off."

It was designed that way on purpose.
Our system is meant to be hard, contentious and slow.

Unfortunately those mechanisms to obstruct passage of bad law also tend to preserve bad law once passed. I very much like the idea of repealing a law being easier than passing a law allowing gooberment action. The laws we really need have little difficulty winning super majority support, unless the nation is already beyond help.
As for the culture war, if leftists win the nation is in for a spell of "bad luck".

OTOH. The left lately has a pretty good track record of getting the governments out of places it doesn't belong. Marriage for one. And you are all too familiar with the other. The Rs are so familiar with that success that the Maine legislature is trying to get ahead of the curve. Citing their being behind the curve in gay marriage.
As I have said here repeatedly - the best thing the Rs can do is to take the issue off the table by capitulating and focus on things like the economy and Obamacare. It looks like the politicians are following my advice. The base will catch up eventually. Mostly.

Addressing the title of this thread, the answer is EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Then why don't Conservatives give up Prohibition? Well some of them are see Perry, Rick, Texas.Diogenes wrote:Addressing the title of this thread, the answer is EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Also the TEAs on reducing drug sentencing - in cooperation with liberal Democrats. It looks like the Rs are intent on taking the issue off the table by ending Prohibition. Good. A tactic I have suggested for quite some time. To considerable local opposition.

Nyet. Divided government requires extra computer time durink simulation of citizen response to applied stimuli. One-party system can successfully be simulated in half of time. Is much safer for governink apparatus.williatw wrote:Divided governments can be quite productive, & far safer in IMHO than one party rule is.
