Its like old home week! I routinely work with a 2-meter 3-axis Helmholtz coil these days, measuring with fluxgates and magnetoresistive bridges down to a few nanoteslas, and I made some custom magnetometers from Allegro Hall effect chips at EMC2.

The Allegro devices are dirt cheap and very easy to use.
