Enrico Fermi operated the first self sustaining chain reacting pile. Its power output was about 100 watts IIRC. This was a while before the atomic bomb.

As an aside, my dad has a piece of the graphite from this pile.
What is the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.
