This was inchoate concern when I browsed the slideset, but crystallised today.
Why would the NRC vote itself out of a job by recommending light-touch regulation for fusion? (Assuming they notice fission is history)

A lot of people worry. That said, the WH seems to be leaning towards a regulation similar to medical and other facilities that handle tritium, rather than fission reactors. Those are also handled by the NRC, so there is some room for the NRC to still stay alive.
