Focused Energy

DARMSTADT, Germany - Focused Energy, a laser fusion startup dedicated to developing fusion as a means of generating clean alternative energy, has announced the successful completion of $15 million in seed funding.

That is great for them. Let's hope they can make it work. Lasers have come a long way since NIF was first built. So there is a good chance that they can do it.

The efficiency and repetition rate of lasers in ICF is not the only major issue. A very hard problem is to develop an ICF target that is cheaper than the price of the electricty gained from it. Solving this will need new clever ideas. It might be doable, but for sure it will be a difficult problem to solve. Anyway it is nice to see new fusion companies entering the field.
