UC Irvine professor Norman Rostoker, the father of breakthrough clean nuclear fusion energy techniques via plasma-based accelerators, died on Christmas Day [2014] in Irvine, Calif. He was 89.
In addition to serving on UCI’s faculty, Rostoker co-founded Tri Alpha Energy with prominent physicists, including Nobel Prize winner Glenn Seaborg, to implement his ideas to develop a clean source of fusion-based energy
....A memorial service is being planned for Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Irvine, California.

Re: Norman Rostoker of Tri Alpha - died
Very sad
I would have wished that he had lived to see his work reach break even.
He was a legend and pioneer in the field. He will be missed. I hope that wont have a negative effect on Tri Alpha in some way.

I don't get the bit about Seaborg. Wikip says he passed away in '99. Tri-Alpha goes back that far?
Re: Norman Rostoker of Tri Alpha - died
My condolences to his family and colleagues. Yet another fusion pioneer passes away before seeing fusion power a reality.

Temperature, density, confinement time: pick any two.

Wow. I JUST saw this.
