Thanks: I looked at older data a few years back, and though the cross-section was about what I recalled, I missed the incident energy difference.

Interesting new paper and details on latest "Norman" experiments:

Dr. Jaeyoung Park is a co-author of the paper, and his affiliation is given as "TAE Technologies, Inc." When did that happen?

Podcast by Artem Smirnov, TAE chief technology officer
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/f ... 0520594876

TAE has been funded by the milestone
Norman has demonstrated technological -practically- long enough and hot enough for fusion
Copernicus expect to demonstrate net energy by mid 2020's at 24 minutes
Da Vinci to demonstrate commercial power to the grid by late 2020's

Industry has cumulatively delivered imminent commercial fusion on a time scale that is shorter than previously believed. Investors after considerable due diligence are confident that commercial fusion is within reach.

Nice job spotting it.
If I remember well i recently read that EMC2 run out of funds in 2019 and shut all operations. With is experience he is a good assets for any company out there, is nice to see him joining an active research job again.

“All the callouts to tritium is exactly why TAE has been focused on pB-11 as its feedstock from the very beginning (early 90’s). TAE will reach D-T conditions as a natural stepping stone to pB-11, cause it cooks at ‘only’ 100M c, whereas pB-11 is upwards of 1M c,” the spokesperson wrote in a response. “It would seem like a much harder accomplishment to then scale to 1M, but what this milestone proves is the ‘Scaling law’ for the kind of fusion TAE is generating — in an FRC (the linear design of “Norman”, unlike the donut Tokamaks) the hotter the plasma, the more stable it becomes. It’s the opposite of a [Tokamak]. The milestone gives them scientific confidence they can increase temps beyond DT to pB11 and realize fusion with boron — cheap, aneutronic, abundant — the ideal terrestrial feedstock (let’s not get into mining the moon for helium-3!).”

and from the same article as was missed by some,
The demonstration facility “Copernicus,” which will be built using some of the new capital the company has announced raising, will start off on the DT fuel cycle and eventually make the switch. Over time, TAE hopes to license the DT technology while building up to its ultimate goal.

New TAE promovideo. Not really any news in it, but I thought it was still worth a post. At least we hear something from them...

TAE Technologies has issued this press release:
TAE Technologies Expands Executive Team with William Coaker as Chief Investment Officer

New Role Adds Investment Expertise to Support TAE's Growth and Innovation
"With the confidence we earned in achieving our 'long enough, hot enough' milestone, demonstrating our fusion technology on an industrial scale, and receiving robust scientific validation from our independent science panel, TAE is quickly moving toward fusion commercialization. This, along with the 'fusion-born' technology applications in energy storage, transmission and e-mobility, presents a unique opportunity for a clean energy future," said TAE Technologies CEO Michl Binderbauer. "Bill deeply understands the transformational, ready-for-market nature of our technologies and how to communicate with investors and the marketplace. As such, his leadership and vision will play a central role in realizing TAE's capabilities to make an immense contribution to humankind."
Obviously the next devices for TAE Technologies will be more expensive than the previous ones, so they have to put a serious effort into getting new investors onboard.

Yeah, their machines are getting bigger and bigger. 80 meters for the Da Vinci core... That is pretty big. Certainly not as compact as they originally envisioned their generators to be.

That is for the Boron machine, but yes, it is larger than thought, but not too large. Helion has a smaller machine which because of its ability to extract electric power directly is a huge advantage, but it requires deuterium, not a big deal though.

Helion is my preference because of the direct electric power extraction.

Well size for terrestrial applications is not really that big of an issue, but it drives up the cost, which at this stage is probably requiring them to look for more funding.

Funding is always milestone driven, but that size has been known for some time (years).
