Perhaps, though it is a virtual reality mathematical model. The underlying He4 +He4 to Be8*, etc, the triple alpha process, is unchanged. This just makes the math fit better. It is interesting (from my layman's perspective) that they are perhaps gaining a greater structural understanding of the nucleus. They mention part of the quark associated force changing the shape of the nucleus (introducing strains?) Is this a hint that the strong force has a role in the weak interaction(?) despite separate force carriers?. Is this a step towards combining the strong and electroweak forces?
