Fluff page - 'Engineering Grand Challenges for 21st Century'

This site, engineering challenges.org, gives a list of engineering challenges and lets you vote on the ones you think are most important. Fusion is listed, with heavy emphasis on the shining promise of ITER. Page says alternative approaches exist but doesn't list any.

Not sure what the point of the site is... to publicize grand engineering goals?

I think it is to help drum up support for engineering in congress. Check out this page:
http://www.engineeringchallenges.org/cms/7124/7169.aspx where it says:
Much input will be considered, ranging from experts in science or engineering to the broader general public. Many ideas will be shared, in raw form, on this website. The committee's final conclusions will also appear here and be presented at a public event in early 2008.

This project is sponsored by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation, Award # ENG-063206.

Can't hurt to put in a plug for Polywell!

Interesting link, Mike.

I especially liked this comment there:
With energy and its distribution being one of the largest future energy problems and engineering being an essential part of it, it is hard to understand why no one on the committee carries credentials in this field.
I had the same problem with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
