I don't know about the limitations of streak cameras in high-energy environments, but this looks like an interesting diagnostic tool for a whole bunch of things, including plasmas.

I believe it works by looking at a single scanline at a time and reconstructing a 2D plane. The scene has to be static, and the beam being photographed has to fire for each scanline.
