The idea of the Bussard fusor is to use the magnetic field to hold electrons so you get a negative potential in the center. That entices the positive nuclei to accelerate into the center. By holding the magnet rings positive, you reflect any fast moving ions back towards the center, and the design ...

I guess we can argue theory forever, so why not show the experimental data. What is the electron density over space, and how was it measured? Go get a copy of Krall et al. (1995) . It will of course explain it in much better detail than I could summarize here. MSimon over on the IEC Yahoo group was...

The Problem With Fission

The problem with fission is plutonium.

If we start building a lot of nukes every one will want one.

Not such a good idea. IMO.

BTW I've had Naval Nuke quals. Passed with flying colors. So I'm not unmindful of the various suggestions for reducing the production of plutonium. I'm not sold.

The Parade

The job of a politician is to find a parade and get in front of it.

No parade. No politician.

Persuade the people. The politicians will follow.

Official policy? That's intriguing — do you have a reference for it? Dr.Bussard did talk about this in his video, beyond that I seen some project outlines regarding DoE. Currently, I can't access DoE's website right now, but from what I read about it, they are totally behind the tokamaks. Actually ...

Short version: Not likely, consider that environmentalist are protesting againts ITER. They have reason to. ITER, whether it's successful or not, is going to generate prodigious amounts of radioactive waste. It's not a clean technology, and almost certainly never will be, because p-B11 fusion is to...

Salvage WB-6 and give it new magnets instead of building a new one from scratch? Or would that make experiments less meaningful? Other than the vacuum pumps there is nothing useful to salvage from WB-6. It is a pulsed machine. Continuous operation of WB-7x is a requirement for scaling up to WB-100M...

Re: Cutting Costs?

Any realistic avenues for cutting costs to develop the polywell? Wrong way to think about it. If there is proof of the pudding (continuous operation of WB7-x). The big bucks will flood in. Not a problem. Let us focus on raising the $5 to $15 million to do WB7x right. That shouldn't be too hard. I h...
