Alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than heroin and meth (or its chemical analogs) is given to children. Whatever. lets discourage the use of Tobacco, Alcohol, and the self dosing of dangerous compounds for recreational purposes among children, OK? BTW anecdotal evidence is proof of nothing. It'...

Another big problem of small-scale nuclear plants is their economical (non)competitiveness. I'm sure you've all heard that comparison about shoemakers. A small manufacturer makes 500 pairs a week. Then you come and say "What would a pair for me cost?" And ther we have another, big one, that makes 1...

The problem with nukes is that you need very highly trained operators to avoid criticality accidents. Get that one solved and nukes will proliferate. Or innocuous failure states. We could start by removing the requirement that a hot reactor requires to run ant 160 BAR, and remove much Fission produ...

Diesel followed Carnot.
Interesting. I though Diesel's original attempts were to apply Carnot's perspective into the exhaust gasses, giving up heat through expansion and driving a piston. It's all closely related. Carnot that established the thermodynamic value of compression, and it's expansion. The cooler the exhaust gas...
Carnot and an IC engine.
In an IC engine, if the exhaust was the same temperature as the air and the fuel, then wouldn't it be 100% efficient in a Carnot viewpoint?
Edit: Bah, Exhaust plus heat output to the engine structure and other heat sinks.
Wasn't that what Diesel was trying to do?

The advantage of the new media is that you can talk back. You had it right the first time, in the post before. The real advantage is that the narrative gets challenged, and, if interesting, deconstructed. Until our collective benefactors get a managing handle on this newfangled media, it is going t...

So why was it closed? I assume they didn't want to make it easier for protesters to trash the place? And I don't get that guy, what was his point? Oh yeah, his point was: "Why are you closed?!" Doncha get it? It's idiots after their 15 minutes of fame. The camera man was involved. Notice the camera...

My favorite strip club was one run by a former evangelical minister. Nice place. He treated the girls well and patrons were not fleeced. Needless to say eventually the locals closed it as a moral embarrassment. Of course other joints closer to the town center were immune. He probably was too honest...

Re: Sorry, no Tritium today.
I thought the low yield was because they didn't bother to load the Tritium. Building and exploding the Pt core is the hard part and hey proved out that part. Why load the booster and destroy a perfectly good mountain? You are thinking that they was testing a thermonuclear bomb which IMHO is an orde...

I see as much dogma among people of science as that of any religion. Ever hear of Anthropological Global Warming? The AGW hype is pseudo science, not real Science. It wears the cloak of science, but disregards the essential methods. Real Science wouldn't casually dismiss assorted evidence and reaso...
