There are many solution for the energy problem. My question was more about if it would be doable and interesting for most situation. Since there already an economy around coal why not make the new plant cleaner since the technology is almost ready? Personally I prefer Hydro power but where I live it...

Clean Coal solution?
I know we would all prefer if BFR work but if it doesn't what other solution there is? The majority of the world use coal as an energy source and the reserve are good for still a good period of time. I saw the other day a report on using plasma arc technology or plasma torch to burn city waste. The ...

If you think that being in a electric field suppose no energy requirement to fuse 2 proton, you are wrong. Actually it is the inverse since the charge interaction is between each other depending of the distance. The energy requirement still is lower for 2 proton to fuse than the predicted model of e...

Sorry you are right. Energy will be the same. Entropy will increase with time but energy/mass should remain equal all thing considered. I mixed the thermodynamic concept a little bit, been a long time since I had to used them. MSimon you are right a field is a mathematical construct that explain som...

You can see a field. Maybe not a low frequency field but if you can see light then you see a electromagnetic field since the electromagnetic field carrier is a photon. Light is only a high frequency photon that posses a electric and magnetic field. For your example it's true if you have 2 charged pl...

The notion of charges attracting each other is just that - a notion. Actually the notion of charges attracting or repulsing each other is electromagnetism, it based on the observed comportment of the atom. Philosophically we could say it's a notion that we created to represent a comportment of elec...

Which begs the question- why is the magrid charged to a high positive potential? I'm guessing that if the ions are immune to effects of the pos charged grid, then it would not contribute directly to acceleration of the ions. But, would the pos charge on the grid add to the neg charge on the confine...

The tokamak and the BFR are 2 totally different beast. I know most people here have an understanding of how the polywell work. But I'm trying to make an explanation back from the basic. The Tokamak use magnetic field to direct along a toroid path and force ion together by having such an intense magn...

If you are right, and global warming is a scam. I don't think it's a scam from all the information I saw and heard but whatever. Even if it's a scam it's a good thing to require company to follow some environmental norm. It force them to upgrade their equipment. Better equipment usually mean lowerin...

Well the electric car was made several time by different corporation. One model who did solve a lot of problem was a electric car prototype made by Hydro-Quebec near 1998. It used wheel-motor for the propulsion each ~100hp so for a small car they did produce near 400hp making the 0-100km/h in about ...

I'm not sure how long someone can stop learning in engineering. Usually to master a subject someone once evaluated the time needed to be 7 years. If there is new development in that field after the person finish learning about it to be considered a master, I guess you could suppose another 7 year of...

Don't know if it will help, but for computer analysis of a polywell, if I had to code it I would make a grid who use the spherical coordinate system. But with a twist the resolution would grow from the center. Something like the first sphere radius would be 50pm the next would be 150pm(100pm+50pm), ...

Energy requirement?
Hi questions from a newbie here. I look in the forum but I didn't see those question answered elsewhere Supposing we have a designed 100MW PB11 reactor. What would be the minimal amount of energy required to have a self sustaining reaction? And I don't mean for having a 100MW output but just enough ...
