Would the results be better if you were to replace the permanent magnets with copper coils and then hook up the copper coils to the same power source as the cathode? Thanks for all the help as I appreciate it because I am very new to this.

Also is it a cold cathode or hot cathode? Does it matter which one is used?

Where did you get the wire cathode?
