Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Why does it have to be 400 sf? To reach their price point of <$6/MWh, unless you've heard differently. your link says 60, not 6 also 400 SF would be smaller than my bedroom, don't think anyone needs a 50MWe fusion reactor quite that tiny:) maybe for HEO you could get close to that, given that you o...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Well, experimental machines are always more complicated than the serial produced ones (just for all of the diagnostics alone). Look at the evolution of the SpaceX Raptor engine! They will get a lot simpler and cheaper to build over time. Fair, but how long will it take them to get 250X smaller? Fro...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Which machines are we talking about, the self-contained shipping containers producing 50MW at <$60/MWh or the proposed 100,000 square foot Orion Generator Building?

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Thanks. It reminds me of the two most recent of Dennis Whyte's design classes, which both came up with large radiative L-mode tokamak designs, except that the walls only had to absorb 20% of the total energy, since the blanket got 80% from the neutrons. Anyway, I hope the NBI can take the heat.

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Silly question, but have they said how they plan to get the energy out?

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

I wonder if the issue is tuning the electronics, massive power in, timed, then massive power back out to the capacitors, **add in plasma dynamics**, fusion reaction timing. (we had 10,000 HP or 7.5 MW, variable speed inductive motors driven by power electronics, key a radio nearby & watch them shut...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Running out of 2025 days. I wonder what the issue is? "Q: It's just that gradual process of just doing more and more tests? A: And every day you add a system, you upgrade, you go to higher power, honestly, some days you break things." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oswGdRTyppg&t=586s You know, sci...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

This just popped up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_CFCyc2Shs&t=67s "David Kirtley: Nuclear Fusion, Plasma Physics, and the Future of Energy | Lex Fridman Podcast #485" Two and a half hours. I haven't watched it yet. I've watched most of it, but there is only one passing reference to Polaris in ...

Supercapacitors have a higher energy density but a much lower operating voltage.

Re: Grok encouraging me to post again.

Hello again guys. Grok and I went to work testiing it out in Colab. What we figured out was that we hadn't created a virtual polywell, what we had was a 2 stage compression inertial confinement scheme. We tested it out with D-T, got the core compressed to liquid hydrogen density, but couldn't get i...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Conjecture. OpenAI is not even a customer of Helion yet. They are obviously smarter than that. LOL, you were the one who made that statement. People here try to have serious conversations. If you want to be an edgelord, do that on Reddit, please. There are other ways to feed the Hype train without ...

I don't know if you've been keeping up with the news, but it's to keep the OpenAI bubble from popping.
