this is the lamest agenda driven article you can imagine
the author has an absolute ax to grind, their points are pathetic while the animosity of the "journalism" is striking
It's like reading something written by Delores Umbridge, but in real life!

Superunifaction startup
any thoughts from the group regarding this company, their approach and their recent press coverage? Somewhere between Helion and Rossi?

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage
re Helion, yes that direct energy conversion design is the winning ticket imo I recall in their early and spacecraft propulsion designs a single FRC was accelerated, compressed, expanded and exited if I understand now, the acceleration and compression are followed by expansion/collision and the merg...

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage
well considering we could have been running the whole show on MSRs since the 70's and mitigated the carbon climate debacle, imo the 'total failure' has already happened.. now we are out of time and building these huge energy harvesting systems that will be obsolete in 20 years when nuclear finally g...

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage
yes 80% seems pretty astonishing number
can't wait for the next-gen fission/fusion fleet build out, can't be soon enough..
this group has impressive scaling strategy

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage
yes the capacity scaling is limited by the tanks
also what PSI can be obtained through pumping into a sealed tank, this setup would seem to be limited in energy density
but an interesting workaround of the long-standing isothermal problem in gaseous compression through gradual bulk compression

They had an older design where a single FRC was compressed and then expanded and cooled in a very elegant direct energy conversion scheme, I guess they needed to go to the 2 opposing FRCs and had to abandon that design. Interesting that they are not including extra compression technology a la Genera...

Re Helion and similar approaches using the FRC it would appear that these designs have the great advantages of an inexpensive geometry and of being able to transport the plasma through the device as opposed to a stationary plasma. So the input/combustion/exhaust apparatuses can be separate as in any...
