Re: 2014 Dark Horse Trifecta Year?

One way to approach this highly speculative topic without enough information is to make a guess based on physics in terms of cross section and energy production. The D-T reaction is easiest to achieve break even with and with the resources available at General Fusion it could very well be that they ...

Re: General Fusion in the news

From article, Laberge said he got the call to talk at TED because he is constantly networking in his efforts to promote fusion energy. Well, that answers one question that has been in my mind, and that is why do I know more about where GF progress is than the other dark horses. If General Fusion is...

Re: General Fusion in the news

Michel Laberge, the founder of General Fusion, will talk at TED in Vancouver on March 18, 2014 http://generalfusion.com/downloads/gf_p ... aberge.pdf. The Vancouver Sun has a news item on this at http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/ ... story.html.

Re: 2014 Dark Horse Trifecta Year?

I am sure some of that went into the fusion project. Profit from other projects maybe. But nothing direct. This is a go-it-alone, typical of some of LM's work. If they come up with something cool, they will bring it forth and reap. Strange how quiet they have been since the initial annoucement. Las...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

LPP has put up a new newsletter on their website http://www.lawrencevilleplasmaphysics.com/images/lpp_focusfusionreport_january24-2014.pdf . It is worth reading as it summarizes their accomplishments in 2013 and details their plans for 2014. In 2014: We will carry out our first crowdfunding campaign...

Re: General Fusion in the news

I checked out the General Fusion presentation once more at the Fusion Power Associates December 2013 meeting. I noticed that the General Fusion presentation has been updated so that the slide with the schedule has labels on the time axis that actually make sense. According to the new schedule Genera...

Re: Sorlox - FRC nautilus compressor

I like that they are able to use Deuterium as a fuel, instead of Deuterium and Tritium. That makes the device a lot more attractive. It is not as attractive as PB11, but probably the next best thing. At least they don't have to worry about breeding tritium. They might get that as a side effect, tho...

Re: Sorlox - FRC nautilus compressor

Why the nautilus shape though? To achieve compression the tube must be cone shaped. By turning the tube into a spiral they can simplify the device because they can have the burning plasmoid circulating in the burn chamber in the middle of the device for as long as is needed for the fusion reactions...

Re: Sorlox - FRC nautilus compressor

For the Sorlox nautilus compressor, I don't understand what keeps the plasma from interacting with the metal wall. Other FRC's and GF use magnetic fields for actual compression of the plasma so wall interaction should not be an issue. At least that is my thinking. If you watch carefully the animati...

Re: Sorlox - FRC nautilus compressor

Sorlox has a product for isotope production called the IP-SDC 100: The IP-SDC 100 is designed for isotope production, producing neutron-rich and neutron-depleted isotopes using a single machine, enabling your facility to meet the needs for clinical studies, research, and regional distribution. The i...

Re: Inertial Electrostatic Confinement (IEC) Fusion text

This is an interesting question. The contents and index of this book are available from Springer as posted in this thread http://www.talk-polywell.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4647 . I guess the net gain reactor would be discussed in chapter 13 Reactor Confinement Theory and IEC Reactor Visions . . . ...

Re: General Fusion in the news

The progress graph is on page 48 of the slide set from Japan. It is true that the graph is logarithmic and that the shown growth is faster than exponential. The headline says 2013-2014, but it is true that the x-axis of the graph is funny since it covers partly five years. Maybe the leftmost date No...

Re: 20 years away, and always will be

The scientific method is based on the interplay between experiments and theories. Sometimes experimental breakthroughs requires years or tens of years to have a proper theoretical explanation, like in the case of superconductivity. Hypothesises, theories and models are also made to predict the outco...

Re: Convergent Scientific videos are up.

Further speculation on input costs: Electron current from the E guns in WB6 was ~ 45 Amps during the ~0.25 seconds of high Beta and high potential well operation. This suggests that ~ 6*10^ 19 electrons per second/Watt *45 Watts = ~ 2.7 *10^21 electrons per second. This multiplied by 0.00025 second...
