Re: Lockheed Martin’s Compact Fusion Reactor
The T4B can produce one megawatt of energy. The second prototype, the TX, is 18 meters long, seven meters in diameter, and about 2,000 tons in weight. The TX can produce 200 megawatts of energy. Where do these energy numbers come from, exactly? Anybody know? Are they really that far along that they...

Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump
Ok. To the Trump folks here, I hope you've had a great time this week. You got to party, and gloat, and laugh at those sad wimpy liberals. You bought a great fantasy: American Greatness, and Jail the Bitch. About that last thing: like most things Trump says, he didn't really mean it. He said it to g...

No, they've never had anything, and they've still got nothing. Life's too short to waste on that nonsense.krenshala wrote:While I'm not holding my breath (or investing) there is always the possibility that they've (finally?) come up with something real.

This is interesting. Aside from the challenges of direct conversion though, I wonder about the effects of repeated 10,000 tesla magnetic pulses on any nearby metal...

Re: Boeing Laser Fusion Engine Patent Accepted
At first blush I thought this was something to compete with Northrup's reactor, but this Boeing thing seems bizarre and baffling -- an April Fool's joke. So, you're going to do like 100 MW of D-D or D-T fusion with no heavy shielding a few meters from hundreds of passengers?

Not to disparage UW in any way, though local politics (Scott Walker & Friends) have been putting them thru the wringer:

Re: Aviation Week on the Lockheed Skunkworks CFR
Hello all. Do I understand correctly that this machine relies on heating to rev the ions up to the kinetic energies needed? There's no IEC type grid or or virtual grid, right?

Yes. Greater energy density = more mischief when things go wrong.hanelyp wrote:More energy density would be in some ways nice, but did anyone else think "bang"? System stability under large scale manufacture and real world use is important.
