Re: Moore's Law Coming To an End
Most chips are still 2D. Build up. It worked for biology. Then you have to deal with heat buildup. Oxygen availability is only one reason for the amount of blood flow to the brain. There are plenty of ways to suck heat out of a chip. Liquid nitrogen works, but it's unwieldy. Graphene based chips may...

Yes and no. People who historically lean Democratic (most notably the ACLU) are speaking out against marijuana laws more than traditional Republican groups. Interestingly Washington and Colorado aren't strong liberal states. However, in general I agree that a politician is a politician is a politici...

Re: Waht Washington Has Forgotten
The law says that 501(c)(4) groups are to be used to promote social welfare, not political campaigns. Many of the groups which were targeted for in depth questioning about their expenses and intents named themselves "something something TeaParty." They were obviously political in nature. That in and...

Yeah, 4th amendment.
None of it's okay, but it's 4th amendment (unreasonable search and seizure) not 5th (courts, self incrimination).

used as a political weapon to intimidate opponents You're right, but I would argue that it was the unequal application of the law that turned these actions into weapons against an opponent. If the law is applied equally, then they're just doing what Congress has instructed them to do. That's their ...

Re: Waht Washington Has Forgotten
Part of the problem is that the tax code is WAY TOO COMPLEX Well, I don't think anyone will argue with you there. Personally I'd go with flat a consumption tax (where basic staple goods aren't subject to any tax) over a flat income tax, but that's a different discussion. As for jail time, ideally t...

No, I'm saying that it's the job of the IRS to apply tax law equitably. The problem with this fiasco is that they didn't do this.
If you don't like the tax law, change the laws. Don't get upset when it's applied in a biased manner and someone calls out for it to be applied in an equal one.

But she wasn't begging for mercy. She was asking not to pay taxes. Nobody tried to stop her (or her group) from gathering or talking. Nobody tried to put them in jail for what they were saying. Nobody threatened any of them in any way. They were investigated to see whether or not their request was a...

Re: Eugenics Poster Girl!
So you are suggesting that Drug addiction renders someone incompetent in managing their daily affairs? Certainly it can, depending on the severity of the addiction. Isn't that part of the definition of an addiction? Dependence upon a substance or activity to the point where it interferes with daily...

should they be allowed to have kids The problem there is the state imposing will on individuals' most basic biological functions. I understand that there are people largely dependent on the community for their survival, but to remove their reproductive choice is a massive step. There have to be ver...

Gina Rinehart is insane. She's known for saying that mine workers in Australia should be happy to work for $2 a day like they do in Africa. This coming from a woman whose entire fortune was inherited from her father who built it from nothing. I wouldn't put a statement like this past her. That said,...

the Democrats will take credit for ending Prohibition despite having started it You stated the problem with that assertion in your own post: It is pretty disgusting when the core of the Republican Party acts like Jim Crow Democrats on this issue. The Democrats of the 1800s are not the Democrats of ...

Re: Progressives Are whining About infrastructure again
The thing is that the solutions are things that the Progressive wouldn't like very much. Like what? Same old tune, which comes down to "give us money." You know how to build/repair roads for free? Infrastructure decay is a real problem. Well, at least we agree on that. Demonizing people you don't l...

What hanleyp said. Mt Gox (the largest USD exchange) has had numerous legal problems. Most recently they didn't setup some international monetary transfer account correctly and had some of its USD accounts frozen. Bitcoins are in many ways an ideal currency, so long as you can find someone willing t...
