Re: SpaceX News
Soooo, that rules out the fan as a propulsor during dash , right? A supersonic dash by an object a meter or two high near the pad is ruled out by the lack of a sonic boom on the audio recording. It would be much louder than a rifle shot. I don't think the microphone could miss it, and it would be d...

Re: SpaceX News
Delta, What exactly do you think you are proving I'm not trying to prove anything. I'm amateurishly exploring the available data with public domain tools, hoping some experienced image pro will provide a sounder analysis and post it for us all to squabble over. by applying filters to a few pixels o...

Re: SpaceX News
Supersonic propeller driven drone? No, just no. It hurts my head to think of all the forces and power requirement needed to even break Mach in a propeller driven vehicle. While parts of a propeller can exceed that speed it would require the whole blade to do so and radial shockwave and the lateral ...

Re: SpaceX News
In supersonic dash mode, if the object had contra-rotating fans (no longer generating significant lift) they could still be angularly accelerated/decelerated both differentially and in unison to provide a modicum of attitude control via their angular momenta, where the flight control system would ne...

Re: SpaceX News
While the original video is supposedly 60 frames per second, I don't think that information survived YouTube posting. My editor shows 60 frames per second, but the image only updates every other frame, so what we're working with is essentially 30 FPS. YouTube postings are almost never really true. ...

Re: SpaceX News
Conspiracy theorists have a way of generating overly complex scenarios and methods, when simple accounts can explain the known facts. What could be simpler than a tungsten dart dropped out of a drone? http://www.horizonhobby.com/category/multirotor/multirotor-accessories/first-person-view-(fpv) htt...

It's just one of those supersonic, tungsten dart-tossing or electrolaser-firing bugs. Chooooooom.

Re: SpaceX News
Dude, I just posted a picture and described what it shows and how it was processed. If you think that silvery orb with rectangular understructure, behind the tower, is a bug or bird, then a) tell us what you are smoking, or b) tell us how, when I click this page, I see something different than you s...

Re: SpaceX News
Be careful when interpreting a heavily compressed video stream! These things are lossy and all sorts of weird artifacts happen. Yes, the artifacts can be weird indeed. In the above, the tower structure looks fairly accurate, which increases confidence that the object is not too far off base. I sugg...

Re: SpaceX News
The mystery object --
1) flies behind the tower (is not a bug),
2) is metallic, with a rounded top and a darker, angular bottom (is not a bird),
3) moves at high speed.

I concede that Florida bugs are big enough to fly around with .50 cals.

Re: SpaceX News
The initial explosion seems to have a single origin. Doesn't the flight termination system involve line charges along the tanks?
