Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
I would still like to see that triple product plot... As I understand it, Helion has found a way to somewhat lessen the demands for a robust positive energy exchange. But that might offset the necessary constraint for the triple product with an order of magnitude or perhabs two. Not make it irrelev...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Lawson triple product generally assumes a continuous process. Helion's reactors are intended to produce discrete chunks of gain (around 5-10MJ for Orion). This is why Helion doesn't like discussions of Q. The closest comparison would be how much electricity they recovered vs how much they lost. Yes...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
This is all very exciting and nice reading as an evening pastime but perhabs you shouldn't get your cylinder head gasket blown over this recent announcement. I get the skepticism. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a skeptic, with a pretty reliable and accurate BS detector. But I respectfully disagree t...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
This is all very exciting and nice reading as an evening pastime but perhabs you shouldn't get your cylinder head gasket blown over this recent announcement. Where is the Helion Company in the triple product chart compared to others? It is still a high risk endevour that might, or most probably will...

Re: Theory of laser-assisted nuclear fusion - mechanism to lower temperatur requirements
This article is somewhat easier to read: https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Low_frequency_lasers_modeled_to_greatly_boost_nuclear_fusion_rates_999.html Within this framework, intense laser fields emerge as tools that can in principle relax some of the stringent temperature requirements associated wi...

Theory of laser-assisted nuclear fusion - mechanism to lower temperatur requirements
I nail this one to the board also. Perhabs something worth having. Nothing much in the abstract here: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s41365-025-01879-x Laser fields were shown to enhance the fusion yields, and the mechanism of this enhancement was explained. Low-frequency lasers are more ...

NESAR - newly patented polywell variation
I post this one to put it on the screen. It is a polywell but with a more magnets and: The second and most important innovation, the NESAR obtains a set of magnetic coils angled off-center relative to a solitary location (i.e. single relative center point (SRCP) 601), which greatly improves the conf...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
To reach their price point of <$6/MWh, unless you've heard differently. your link says 60, not 6 also 400 SF would be smaller than my bedroom, don't think anyone needs a 50MWe fusion reactor quite that tiny:) maybe for HEO you could get close to that, given that you only need a small fraction of th...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp
This seems like pretty exciting news. Am I falling for marketing hype, or is this as significant as it sounds? From what I have learned from this forum since 2007 I guess they now have a plausible idea of how to get the job done. The real work remains: To climb the order of magnitude ladder until t...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Some confirmatory words that they are making reproducible net energy positive plasmas in the Polaris machine and that physics are according to projections would be a really nice christmas present.
Is that to much to hope for?

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
The energy input into each magnet has to be in a specific sequence that needs to be timed precisely. Also keep in mind that after each pulse there is a period of time where the machine is vented completely before the next pulse. Anyway, neither flywheels nor two machines in tandem can really do tha...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
They're emphasising their efficiency, which as a physicist agree is important, but I can't help thinking that it's much more important to eliminate the cost and delay of obtaining and installing all those heat exchangers, turbines, and generators. Speaking of supply chains, has anyone at Helion spe...

Stock market conspiracies is taking it to far. Please don't foul the thread with that sort of thing. Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
yes, Helion looks strange because they aren't building a fusion reactor, like everyone else is doing they're building a fusion reactor factory their goal is to pump out 50MWe units like aircraft that seems absurdly optimistic because almost no one has been able to a plasma ignited for more than a f...
