Which is of less significance. Any schoolboy might get 100 megakelvins using lawn mower ignition coils in a fusor..Hasn't LPP already announced that they had achieved two billion degrees?

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp
Looks like TAE will (as usual) present a flurry (33) of papers at this year's APS meeting. Here is one of them that sounds interesting: http://meetings.aps.org/Meeting/DPP20/Session/VP13.4 No news on Copernicus, it seems. I wonder how that is going. From the same presentation: Design development on...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp
Latest results from Norman: 30 ms steady state plasma, 400 eV electron temperature. From what I understand they have a density of 5x10^12 to 5x10^14 cm^-3. That is OKish, but not Earth shattering. I was honestly expecting a bit more, especially temperature wise, but maybe they will push it further....

"We find that for similar values of field and fusion power, but smaller volume, STs can have nTτΕ up to a factor of three higher and Qfus an order of magnitude higher than CTs." "Potentially our results open an alternative and faster route to fusion power based on relatively small, low power STs." ...

Re: Creating a magnetic field at a distance
"By emulating a magnetic source at distance, one would be able to generate magnetic potential landscapes with higher gradients at the desired target position resulting in tighter traps." Please excuse my ignorance, but what confinement method could be better than a magnetic field occuring out of noth...

Re: Creating a magnetic field at a distance
"Controlling magnetism, essential for a wide range of technologies, is impaired by the impossibility of generating a maximum of magnetic field in free space. Here, we propose a strategy based on negative permeability to overcome this stringent limitation. We experimentally demonstrate that an active...

NASA reports on something called lattice confinement fusion
https://www1.grc.nasa.gov/space/science/lattice-confinement-fusion/ "A team of NASA researchers seeking a new energy source for deep-space exploration missions, recently revealed a method for triggering nuclear fusion in the space between the atoms of a metal solid." "While the metal lattice, loaded...

I've heard there are liars, damned liars and there are battery engineers. But this is beyond even the prophecies of the old testament Making a bulk quantity commodity like large scale storage li-ion batteries from semiconductor grade single chrystal silicon ingots. And claiming it to be cheaper than...

Read the paper. Magnets with copper winding in cast pot metal frames. Tank wall blanketing from sprayed lithium. Design life 10 years/1000 shots.
Left me with a lasting sense of hopelessness.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
No renaissance this time! Back to the middle ages.. https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/1.5045123 Previously published calculations predict that the “staged z-pinch” (SZP) can achieve 400 MJ of fusion yield on a Z-class machine. The SZP is touted to need no external preheat mechanism and no extern...
