I would say that 99.9999% of all them never believed their own crap. I think Hitler probably did. Apparantly when Chamberlain gave him the Sudenland land he exclamed "THAT DIRTY PIG!" because he wanted a bloody war instead of peacefully expanding his power. To want to extend you're power through wa...

I personally follow the other take on this. If the guy is willing to pander to the religious extremists, why in the world would one advocate for that as a reason to trust him to stop doing so if he acquires nuclear weapons? Surely his apparent desire to do and say what the fanatics want him to say ...

On the other hand, he could really be a religiously fanatical nut. I have met my share of nuts, religious and otherwise. (Some might say I'm a nut. :) ) They DO exist, and they think all sorts of kooky stuff. I have known people who believe the rapture is coming and that the righteous will simply d...

I would say TV is more than a symptom, it is a catalyst. There's a form of natural selection happening in TV programmes. The most voyeuristic melodramatic programme always gets higher ratings than more measured ones. Television programmes evolve to attract our attention. And at the level beneath tha...

EFN consists of some Environmentalists but also alot of people who come from a background in Nuclear Fission and Fusion. "Environmentalist" basically is put there because we believe nuclear power is good for the environment (i.e. produces no CO2, no air pollution and doesn't trash the countryside th...

Don't forget according to friends of the Earth Nuclear Power is dirty and expensive. Much better to set a robot army of renewable energy generating machines loose on every square inch of nature so that in twenty years time when they all get rusty the whole countryside will look like a giant scraphea...

One possibility that I think has not yet been raised in this thread is the possibility that instead of someone bad taking over a robot army what if something bad did instead. Do you really think its necessarily going to end with robot soldiers? What about computer programmes replacing generals, majo...

The alpha particle "beams" emerging from the cusps will be spiralling around magnetic fieldline, thus while their gyro averaged velocity may be in a "beam" their actual velocity will not and their energy component perpendicular to the decellerating fields of the decellerator will be continous rather...

I've been doing quite a lot of reading up on Nuclear Batteries recently http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_battery and their general efficiency is pretty pathetic for the most part, 1-5% most nuclear batteries are thermocouple based. Some betavoltaic based designs can convert the enrgy of radioacti...

Well there's the oathkeepers http://oathkeepers.org/oath/ who are military personel that have sworn not to betray the constitution and disarm U.S. citizens. But other than that I agree with Diogenes, people are expected to accept the authority of the police and the military. If new legislation banni...

One thing I never understood is the idea that China somehow "needs" dollars. And I don't understand why Americans get so angry at "currency manipulation" If Chinese are willing to exchange real goods and services for what are essentially paper or digital numbers on a bank account screen more the foo...
