Re: SpaceX News
I remember back in the early days before starship was even built and tested, the plan then was to *not* use tiles. They said back then they were going to have many small holes and pump water spray through them to cool during rentry... Never saw when they decided to go with tiles, but its probably an...

https://phys.org/news/2021-06-world-powerful-magnet-ready-ship.html After a decade of design and fabrication, General Atomics is ready to ship the first module of the Central Solenoid, the world's most powerful magnet. It will become a central component of ITER, a machine that replicates the fusion...

In a comprehensive new test, the EmDrive fails to generate any thrust
Seems thermal errors led to a false indication of thrust... https://phys.org/news/2021-04-comprehensive-emdrive.html ..... The results of the Eagleworks experiment were not very strong. While the team claimed to measure a thrust, it wasn't statistically significant, and appeared to be a result of "c...

This may effect fusion work
Experiments and calculations allow examination of boron's complicated dance https://phys.org/news/2019-05-boron-complicated.html Work opens a path to precise calculations of the structure of other nuclei. In a study that combines experimental work and theoretical calculations made possible by super...

Re: LENR Is Real
The real meat of the fraud is in the second half of the IH answer document (The counter claim part). It would be pretty hard for Rossi's situation to be any worse than what is documented in there.

Re: LENR Is Real
As I suspected Parallel, you will not own your error. Or, maybe you just don't get it, so let me help you with some grade school science and math: Energy is power across time. Ie: Watt-hours (Wh), or (Watts * hours). Power is instantaneous force measurement, and thus has no time component. Ie: Watt...

Re: SpaceX News
I wonder if it would make more sense to launch the first reused booster with a consumable payload for the ISS ahead of the scheduled ones. Such a payload is very likely a lot cheaper than a satellite and sending one up before it's needed would mean it's loss wouldn't be a big problem if it fails.

Re: LENR Is Real
There are two sentences in the article that are rather telling... Near the beginning Industrial Heat has worked for over three years to substantiate the results claimed by Mr. Rossi from the E-Cat technology – all without success. And near the end Both the licensing payment and the first test fee we...

The E-cat: cold fusion or scientific fraud?
What the “independent tests” really teach us, if we’re willing to look carefully.

Re: Energy Storage
Those are very interesting little machines capstone makes. One wonders if they're decently priced. If they were cheap you'd think every supermarket and convenience store would have one as backup for their frozen goods. Me thinks they may not be very cheap, though I don't know what would qualify as ...

If anyone wants more capacity than usual small generators you might want to look at Capstone micro turbines... http://www.capstoneturbine.com/prodsol/products/ The exhaust from them can be used as a thermal source for space heating, hot water, and via an absorption chiller for cooling as well. Using...
