so aerogel coated in boron, doesn't change the fact that as far as insulation goes aerogel is hard to beat.

Aerogel applications?

I did a search and the term aerogel hasn't come up once. I know they're a bit hydroscopic, but there isn't any water involved, and they have some amazing thermal properties. give them a diamond coating and call it a day?

If it's a purely spatial relationship than that would be solid proof, but if it's a spatial relationship, in addition to a velocity relationship, then something in an unpowered orbit would behave the same way all the time, wouldn't it?

I've often pondered over how universal the physics we've established. How is it we're positive all the observations we've made on earth would also occur elsewhere. We've flubbed up like that before with that whole air-resistance-falling thing.

Let me take it one step further. If the distribution is Maxwellian then there is little chance for net power and if using Boron no chance. If it is not Maxwellian then there is still a reasonable chance for net power. It may turn out that the only way to establish that it is not Maxwellian is to bu...

Center bore is usually what it refers to. In a Helmholtz configuration it's the center between 2 coils. For an MRI machine, it's on axis center bore. Sticking with that makes the most sense (i.e. center of coil). Magnetic field in a superconductor is always zero, one of their nifty properties. Meis...

Ok, here's my understanding. we have the polywell, which can be described as a cube faced with toroidal magnets, configured such that they generate opposing magnetic fields at the center of the cube. This configuration is what keeps electrons clustered majoritively near the center due to charges mov...

Ground up theoretical explanation

I will preface this entire post with the fact that I am but a lowly undergrad student. I am very interested in Polywell fusion reactors, and I've been paying attention, eagerly awaiting positive news on the peer review, for coming on two years now. the tricky thing is I don't feel like i have a resp...

There's something called creative commons license i think, that way a thing can be patented and still open source. It's one way to avoid something getting bottled up in a corporate IP machine.

It would be handy if we actually could quantify happiness or human welfare some how. Then we'd have something to actually steer for. The current problem is that the $ metric doesn't actually stand for anything, it in itself is worthless and only because everyone agreed can it do anything. Watt's mig...

I would by no means choose "USA" easily half the states would be horrible, my list would go Iowa, because i grew up there, Netherlands, Scandanavia, New Zealand, Japan and then I'd start considering other parts of the US.

One problem with market economies that can not be dealt without interference is the matter of externalities, when some of the marginal benefit/cost is not given/paid to the customer/business (all respectively). Take for example an effective car alarm/retrieval system. Part of the benefit of it would...

What needs to be done is take a honking big array of superconductors, with attributes like geometry, critical temperature, critical field, and characteristics of a whole bunch of other sorts. take that data and try and find patterns, come up with at least 5 different schemes that relate the differen...
