the first use of a net power DD reactor maybe to make heat and a small amount of electricity in deep space or Mars

The efficiency is way too low for anything but very modest power rqmts.

If you are going to burn D-D you might as well turn the heat up and use reaction mass (probably H2O) for propulsion.
