Bush Was Right When It Mattered Most

Not that I'm trying to be controversial.

Finally some honesty from the media;

Honestly, did you ever expect Karl Rove to say otherwise? And the Editorial Page of the Wall Street Journal has been heavily Conservative and pro-Bush from day one. So there's no "Finally" about it. Either Rove and the WSJ has been honest from day one, or they've remained sycophantly biased from day one.

So you think Mr. Obama is going to give Iraq back to the jihadis?

It's refreshing to hear the other side as so many Democrat's (ie. liberals) hated him for doing the appropriate thing, if not unpopular thing, winning a war that couldn't be won. I would hope Obama would do the same when called upon.

Anyway I'm not a fan of political debates, since I work for the US Government, so this will be my one and only post on this.

If this is the first time you've heard the "other side" then you haven't been reading the WSJ editorial page. To claim that "finally" we are hearing an "honest" account, when Rove (the author of the op-ed piece) and the WSJ editorial page (where the op-ed piece appeared) have been consistently telling that "other side" for the past 8 years, can only mean that you've been ignoring the telling of the "other side" for the past 8 years, not that it hasn't been told.
Anyway I'm not a fan of political debates, since I work for the US Government, so this will be my one and only post on this.
So why post it in the first place?

I don't think that question can be reasonably inferred from my response above.

But, since you ask... President Bush took Iraq from Saddam Hussein and the حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي (Baath). The Baath were/are an ideologically secular pan-Arab movement. Al Qaida and similar "Jihad" organizations are fundamentalist religiously Islamic groups. Saddam and his fellow Baathists sought to unite the Arab world under one secular, socialist, rule. Bin Ladin and his fellow Jihadists sought to unite the Muslim world under their strict interpretation of Sharia Law. The two movements are fundamentally opposed to each other and there is every indication that Saddam, feeling that the Jihadists were a threat to his power (by their own admission), did not tolerate or aid them in Iraq. The Jihadists didn't enter Iraq in large numbers until after the fall of the Baath government with the US invasion.

President Bush did not take Iraq from the Jihadis, therefore, President Obama can't "give Iraq back" to them.

The Baath were an off shoot of the Middle East Nazi movement fostered by the Austrian Corporal and assisted by the Mufti Of Jerusalem.

Germany was seen as an anti-colonial power and friend of the Arab world; cultural and economic exchange and infrastructure projects as the Baghdad Railway supported that impression. According to Paul Berman, one of the early Arab nationalist thinkers Sati' al-Husri was influenced by Fichte, a German philosopher and Nazi precursor, famous for his nation state socialism economic concepts, his antisemitic stance and his important influence on the German unification movement.
‘Germany has resolved, step by step, to ask one European nation after the other to solve its Jewish problem, and at the proper time, direct a similar appeal to non-European nations as well'. When Germany had defeated Russia and broken through the Caucasus into the Middle East, it would have no further imperial goals of its own and would support Arab liberation... But Hitler did have one goal. Germany’s objective would then be solely the destruction of the Jewish element residing in the Arab sphere under the protection of British power. (Das deutsche Ziel würde dann lediglich die Vernichtung des im arabischen Raum unter der Protektion der britischen Macht lebenden Judentums sein). In short, Jews were not simply to be driven out of the German sphere but would be hunted down and destroyed even beyond it,.

Hovig John Heghinian in the Comments section pointed to this article about Michel Aflaq, founder of the Ba'ath Party. It's not a new article, but it is worth reading anyway since it explains the ideological foundations of Syria, the old Iraq, and the Iraqi "resistance."
MICHEL AFLAQ was born in Damascus in 1910, a Greek Orthodox Christian. He won a scholarship to study philosophy at the Sorbonne sometime between 1928 and 1930 (biographies differ), and there he studied Marx, Nietzsche, Lenin, Mazzini, and a range of German nationalists and proto-Nazis. Aflaq became active in Arab student politics with his countryman Salah Bitar, a Sunni Muslim. Together, they were thrilled by the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party, but they also came to admire the organizational structure Lenin had created within the Russian Communist party.
Paul Berman describes the Terror War as a continuation of the awful thing that got started in Europe more than 80 years ago and has never come to an end. This is one of the reasons why.
