Lady Margaret Thatcher
Lady Margaret Thatcher
Rest in peace. You will be missed.
Thoroughly British, and at the same time more American than most presidents in my lifetime.

The daylight is uncomfortably bright for eyes so long in the dark.

Engineering is the art of making what you want from what you can get at a profit.

I came across an alternative view from a UK libertarian and thought it might make an interesting contrast to the hagiographies we're seeing.

Note: "came across" is VOX DAY who has written for WND when it was more libertarian.

I forgot that you like the urls to be visible. Do you want me to edit my post to make it more explicit?
Re: Lady Margaret Thatcher
No. Had I had an objection I could have edited my own reply to you.quixote wrote:I forgot that you like the urls to be visible. Do you want me to edit my post to make it more explicit?
There is no rule about it. I just fix auto truncations. I'll give an example appropriate to the thread:

My knee jerk response would be to immediately dismiss the arguments you linked, but after having seen similar behavior on this side of the pond I can grudgingly concede that perhaps some of the arguments are plausible. I am not nearly so well informed as to what was going on in England as I am regarding what has been going on in the United States.
Now I wonder if the accusations may actually have merit, though I did read an article yesterday that seemingly contradicts one of the claims. (from your link)
"She ruthlessly pushed the speed of European integration. "
And the article.

That was similar to my response. Like you, I think, after I stopped to consider what I know I realized that I actually don't know much about her aside from what you hear in the press, which is pretty light on detail.Diogenes wrote:My knee jerk response would be to immediately dismiss the arguments you linked, but after having seen similar behavior on this side of the pond I can grudgingly concede that perhaps some of the arguments are plausible. Yes, but what she supported was the European Common Market, which was used as a wedge to get the ball rolling for tighter economic integration, and ultimately, the creation of the EU and subsequently, the Euro.Margaret Thatcher Was Freakishly Correct About Why The Euro Would Be Such A Big Disaster
edit:
Forgot to include some links. These articles seem to agree, and also make the connection between the ECM and the rise of the EU.

I'd be interested in hearing the perspective of any UKers, agree or disagree.
Re: Lady Margaret Thatcher
I remember when this one lefty journalist was going to interview her, normally he gave right wingers a hard time, but after one or two answers he was cringing, totally intimidated, and she was merely being firm with him at that point, would have crushed him off if she decided to get rough. One Brit described her as an iron fist in a mailed glove, one tough old bird.
