There are no monitors. Thread drift is inevitable.
My "job" here is to weed out spammers and jerks like Isochroma. I'm not a thread herder.
If you count from my days on FIDO net I'm probably way beyond 10 million words.
Even if you only go back to usenet days I probably beat that.

That the problem with politics and economics, the size of the experiment (e.g. an entire large country) is just too big to obtain a control sample.MSimon wrote:
And not to worry - taking money out of the economy and giving it to the government in a down turn has always been a recipe for a quick recovery. See Hoover, Herbert.
Of course passing out government money in a downturn has always been a recipe for a quick recovery.
See Roosevelt, Franklin.

BTW for those of you unaware of my style the above Re: Hoover and FDR is sarcasm.
I don't think we'll ever know whether FDR or Hoover really made the recession worse. In politic the real is always compared the imaginary, which in any other science would be unacceptable.
Some will always say they made things worse, others will say they made things better. How can we get real evidence to prove one theory or the other?

We currently have about 200 experiments running. Not to mention 50 states in America. The more government takes and redistributes the more sluggish the economies.
Growth rates in Europe which is more redistributionist than America runs about 1% to 1.5% lower than America. The jobless rate has also been consistently about 3% to 5% higher for the last decade or two. After a while it starts to add up.

I believe Charles Murray (author of the "Bell Curve") pointed out that European countries that like to bandy about the murder statistics were largely homogenous, while the U.S. is not. He also mentioned that if you don't count crimes committed by a certain minority group, U.S. stats are better than European stats.
Now that Europe is effectively being invaded by north africa, I dare say the murder stats are quite likely to increase dramatically.
Of course this type of information is in the catagaory of HOW DARE YOU MENTION IT ?
Sorry. I'll go back to make believe now.
