Two gunmen 'carrying explosives' attack anti-Muslim art contest in Texas: Suspects dead and security guard wounded at 'draw Muhammad' event that offered $10k prize
Two suspects were gunned down after shooting the guard in the leg outside the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland
Building and surrounding area was placed on lockdown by a SWAT team with around 100 attendees still inside
Reports suggest the pair were carrying explosives as they approached the building in the Dallas suburb
Garland Mayor Douglas Athas said the second suspect was shot as he turned to reach for his backpack
The American Freedom Defense Initiative event offered a $10,000 prize for the best caricature of the prophet
They had invested thousands to employ 40 additional security guards for the exhibition, fearing threats could arise
Involved a keynote speech from far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who has linked the Koran to terrorism
Local police said they had monitoring the build-up to the event and had not received any credible threats

Yeah, Texas is a wrong, wrong place for a terrorist attack like that (not that there can be a right place), especially if they have extra security, like they did at that event.

Makes one wonder whether we'll see a spate of terrorist baiting and killing here in the US. Could become a favorite pass-time, at least until they stop showing up. Great way to thin the threat.

FL: Black Man shoots Unarmed white Man, ruled Justified

Image

In this story from Florida, a black man defends himself from what appears to be a version of the "knockout game". He is hit in the face, draws his firearm, then shoots another attacker who is charging at him. The video does not show him doing anything to provoke the attack.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Customer Fights Back at 3 Armed Robbers

DAYTON -- Calls to 911 and several surveillance videos are shedding more light on this morning's string of robberies during which three suspects hit three stores, all within an hour.

Surveillance video outside the Towne Laundry on Linden Avenue shows two robbery suspects get out of a minivan just after midnight May 6 while wearing masks and enter the building. Moments later, the suspects ran out and got back in the van, with a customer following close behind pointing a handgun at the suspects as they drive off.

It appears one suspect remained in the vehicle during that robbery attempt. Dayton police say two suspects who entered the laundry both displayed weapons but didn't get away with any cash when the man with his own gun chased them away.

That man reportedly has a license to carry a concealed weapon.

The suspects then hit the Sunoco gas station on Wayne Avenue, police said, before heading to the Circle K convenience store on Watervliet Avenue.

A clerk at the Circle K said the three armed suspects came up from the side of the building.

She told a 911 dispatcher she only remembers details from the suspect with the gun pointed at her. She said he was "oddly polite" and described him as thin, about 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8. He was wearing a hoodie and jeans, with a blue bandana over his face and sunglasses. He was holding a black handgun.

A heavier-built man with him had a tan hoodie but she didn't remember anything about the other suspect.

One suspect had a tatoo on his forehead.

She said the suspect told her, "Nobody's gotta get hurt, just stay calm, just open the register, open the register."

She told the dispatcher, "I said, 'honey, I can't open this register,' He said, 'That's fine.' He then demanded cash from somewhere.

The suspects fled the scene with cash and cigarettes, the clerk said.

If you recognize the suspects in the video -- call Crimestoppers at 222-STOP or Riverside Police.

Where's the coverage of heroes who stop mass killings?
By Dr. John R. Lott Jr.

Image
Heroic citizens stopping someone from killing a large number of people don’t seem to be considered news worthy. Don’t people want to read about a brave soul risking his life by running towards the sound of gunfire while others run away? Yet, such stories never get national news coverage by the national mainstream media.

While accidental gunshots get national coverage, few people have any idea how often concealed handgun permit holders stopping mass killings.

The lack of news coverage allows left wing media outlets, such as Mother Jones which should know better, to falsely claim: "In not a single case was [a mass public shooting] stopped by a civilian using a gun."

The truth is that the more successful these heroes are in preventing people from getting killed, the less media coverage they receive, but the lack of fatalities doesn’t explain the lack of news coverage. And if the heroes hadn’t been there, the attacks would have been successful and the national mainstream media would have been talking about the attack for days.

While accidental gunshots get national coverage, few people have any idea how often concealed handgun permit holders stopping mass killings.

Let’s look at some of the recent cases that should have gotten some national attention.

-- New Holland, South Carolina: Earlier this month a man started firing a gun and threatened to shoot into a “crowded fire station parking lot full of children and firefighters.” Fortunately, two volunteer firemen at the scene drew their permitted concealed handguns to stop the attack. They forced the gunman to put down his rifle without them having to fire a shot.

-- Chicago, Illinois: More than three weeks ago, on a Friday night, an Uber driver stopped a man who opened fire into a group of people on a Logan Square busy sidewalk. According to Assistant State’s Attorney Barry Quinn, the Uber driver, who had a permitted concealed handgun, “was acting in self-defense and in the defense of others.”

-- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: In March, NBC Channel 10 described how “Police say a man likely saved the lives of several people when he shot and killed a gunman inside a West Philadelphia barbershop.” As luck would have it a concealed handgun permit holder was walking by the barbershop when the attack started.

-- Chicago, Illinois: Last year, gang members were angered when a woman removed a cup of liquor that one of the gang members had placed on top of her car. The gang members opened fire on four people who had just left a party. But luckily one of the four was in the military and who had a permitted concealed handgun. That permit holder was able to wound one of the gang members and allow his friends to escape.

-- In Darby, Pennsylvania outside Philadelphia in July 2014, a convicted felon, Richard Plotts, opened fire in a hospital, killing a caseworker. Fortunately, a psychiatrist, Lee Silverman, had his own gun and returned fire, hitting Plotts three times and critically wounding him. After Plotts was killed, he still had 39 bullets on him, bullets that he could have used to shoot many other people.

Other recent cases involve permit holders stopping shootings in malls, churches, stores, down city streets, and outside courthouses. Permit holders have stopped knife attacks as well as attacks with guns and bombs. They have saved police officers lives in these attacks, such as a case in Early, Texas.

There are probably many more cases, but nobody knows for sure as many news stories probably don’t mention when a permit holder has stopped an attack. Even when dramatic cases get news coverage there is often only one story mentioning a permit holder stopped the attack. The website for the Crime Prevention Research Center, where I serve as president, has a list of cases.

Between stopping attempted mass shootings or scaring off potential attackers, there is a reason why, with a couple of exceptions, all the mass public shootings in the U.S. keep occurring where general citizens can’t use guns for protection.

Of course, the unwillingness of the media to give cases where mass killings have been stopped news coverage is only part of the story. Defensive gun use stories of any type don’t get news coverage on ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN.

Local news coverage is better, but even that often doesn’t do a very good job. Earlier this month a permit holder saved a police officer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma who was being savagely beaten by a burglar who taken away the officer’s baton. Even there it wasn’t until the third day of local media coverage that one of the local TV stations briefly mentioned the heroic permit holder in a single paragraph.

The gun debate would be dramatically different if the national media carried even some of these dramatic stories. Covering these cases would not only give these heroes the recognition they deserve, it would also give potential killers second thoughts before they attack.

Concealed handgun permit holder saves police officer who was being savagely beaten by burglar

On May 5th in Oklahoma City, when a young police officer was being savagely beaten by burglar with the officer’s baton, a concealed hand permit holder came to the aid of the officer and stopped the attack. The two burglars in this case have been in the Oklahoma county jail a combined total of 70 times (see end of video clip). Interestingly, the news of the permit holder saving the police officer did not get news coverage until the third day of the news coverage (day 1, day 2, day 3). From Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City:

. . . An armed witness may have been the only thing that kept that officer from a more serious beating, or worse.. . .

Rookie Officer Adam Eller and field training officer Sgt. Michael Lambert were responding to the burglary call.

The two suspects in the burglary, Tremaine and Jermaine Williams, are twin brothers. Police say Tremaine was already gone when they arrived, but Jermaine was there and when he saw the officers he took off on foot.

During the chase the two officers became separated. Eller found himself alone when he caught up to Jermaine in a driveway of a nearby home and as he tried to place him under arrest, a fight ensued. During the struggle, Jermaine was able to take Eller’s police baton and then proceeded to strike him over the head somewhere between six and 12 times.

According to a report, that’s when a witness nearby charged up with his weapon drawn and told Jermaine he would shoot him if he did not stop hitting Eller. . . .

Fortunately, largely due to the efforts of the concealed carry permit holder, Rookie Officer Adam Eller is “expected to make a full recovery.”

Detroit is waking the F*** up.

Image

A recent carjacking attempt was stopped cold by a black woman. A black woman armed with a .357 Sig Sauer pistol and training. Only a few years ago, this would have been a highly unlikely event. Michigan passed a shall issue concealed carry law in 2001. Detroit's city government was initially hostile to the idea, but by 2010, five city council members had permits.

As more minorities in high crime urban areas realize that they are legally protected by the second amendment, and can defend themselves without being persecuted in the courts, faith in the police, courts, and justice system will rise, and crime rates will fall.

Here "Dio" you ought to luv this:

EXCLUSIVE: President Ronald Reagan's biggest secret: He packed heat in his briefcase

Image
Secret Service agents revealed President Ronald Reagan carried a gun in his briefcase.
I was in Secret Service headquarters when they told me about former President Ronald Reagan’s biggest secret.

I write fiction for a living, but in my thrillers, I try to get the details right. So what better way to understand how a President lives for my newest thriller than by spending time with the Secret Service agents who spend so much time with him?

So there I was, on my tour of Secret Service headquarters. The agents had taken me into a small museum they have on the premises. It’s a room lined with photos of Presidents and archival exhibit cases filled with Secret Service artifacts. A newspaper with a “Kennedy Dead” headline. A replica of Lee Harvey Oswald’s rifle. The pistol used to try to kill President Gerald Ford. They even have the actual car door from the limo when Reagan was shot.

It was an eerie keepsake for sure. But not nearly as eerie as the next detail they told me. We were talking about Reagan and that day he was shot. Then one of the agents offered this secret: When Reagan was President, he carried his own gun.

I couldn’t believe it
.

Image
Reagan would take the gun onto Air Force One.

“It’s true,” they said. A .38. Reagan used to hide it in his briefcase and take it on Air Force One.

Whatever you think of Reagan, you have to admit, he had a black belt in badassery.
