This is old, but I found it well after it was posted, and looked it up again to show to family. I realized this board might be somewhat interested in it too.

I'm personally interested in human-machine interfacing, and to some extent robotics and automation in "non-controlled environments." The arduino is the platform of choice for lots of amateurs, and I suspect a number of professionals(only real problem I can see there is the way the open source licensing works, versus companies wanting proprietary stuff to sell). These things are letting a lot of people with good ideas get stuff going for not much. If you just search youtube for "Arduino," you'll find dozens of gadgets people made that were possible with such a "brain."
