This guy made his fortune selling Natural Gas.

If the polywell works, it will hurt the gas market.

I do not think they would fund this.

They might if they thought they had a chance to get in on the ground floor. Sometimes being intimately tied into the R&D group has its advantages. You don't REALLY think the Gates Foundation is altruistic, do you?
