I just got an e-mail saying the Dr. got funded. The Navy contract. You can read limited details at the above url.

When I get more confirmation, I'll post it.

This time it is for real.

I couldn't say anything, but looking at the long list of people on the e-mail list of the communication he sent me, I'd say the word is out. No more sitting on pins and needles wishing I could tell you.

And all the publicity from folks like you, and websites like this, evidently were key to making it happen.

Everybody, take a polite bow as I applaud!

Wow! After the couple of false reports we've had in the past, I'm almost afraid to get my hopes up again. But it sounds like we have it very close to the source this time. Fantastic news! :D

Tom, do you know if the new research will be under a publishing embargo? Or will they figure, given the publicity the work has already gotten, that an embargo at this point is fairly pointless?

Could be — the Internet does have a way of fertilizing the growth of good ideas (as well as the weeds!). It's nice to think we may have had some small positive effect here. But honestly, as long as the work gets done, I don't much care how it happened!

I don't like the link back to the powerandcontrol blog. Is there some other source that can be confirmed, or perhaps some other details that can be shared?

If it pans out, this is terrific news!

Hopefully there will be a press release soon.

I have not been specifically told to tell the world yet, or I would post the contents of the e-mail. Evidently the contract was signed on the 21st to supply the funds remaining on the old contract (so evidently the "no cost extension" of a few months ago that set off the refunding rumor was not so spurious after all). If all goes well with the small-scale part, there appears to be an intent to fund the whole thing, but I'd have to call that still speculative.

Keep watching the emc2fusion.org website, and maybe there will be an update with a press release.

I very much hope that this time the research can occur in a more public fashion. The word is out, massively, over the last 10 months or so, and I see no benefit in going under cover again. But I don't make the rules.

A number of people besides me (Tom, Joe among others) got the e-mail.

As soon as I get permission I will publish it.

Nothing at the EMC2 site at this time.

The e-mail was from Dr. B through a moderately trusted source.

Obviously Tom has confirmed it with Dr. B, as he points out above.

To Tom, Joe, and all the others who helped get the word out - bravo. Or as they like to say in the Navy BZ.

Even better Navy talk: outstanding lads.

I thought we might need to reach 1 million people or even 10 million to get this moving.

It appears that around 200,000 was enough.

Update:

156,939 have viewed the Bussard video as of today right now.

Great news! I first heard about this work in "Behold a Pale Horse". Bill Cooper made it sound like the Navy already had a basketball sized device that got its fuel from seawater. I got some guff from relatives for telling them that. That was back in the early nineties, so I guess it was wishful thinking!

Anyway if this is true, does anyone know where the thing is going to be built? I vote for San Diego!

Tony,

My understanding is that the Dr. has already got his office/work space. No info on where.

MSimon,
Definitely you should take away the question mark in the title of your blog. I hope all the best to EMC2 in this new contract. I hope to hear their first results with the new incoming machines are successful. It will be amazing !! We should be patient. As stated by Bussard there are a lot of engineering problems to be solved yet. They need time to improve step by step their design. This is just the beginning... they will have to keep on working for long time to achieve break-even conditions.

Congratulations!!

I'm going to keep the question mark up until the news is made more public.

I would like to publish the Drs. letter as a thank you to all involved including those who just watched the video.

I've been told that the new work will be done in New Mexico. But that was, let's see, third-hand or so... hopefully somebody will issue an official press release (or at least a more detailed note) soon.

Great news... er, hopefully.

Glenn will probably link once we get more confirmation.

If this pans out, we can all be proud we helped, in small ways, to bring about a new age for humanity.

I got the news from my brother, who cited the powerAndControl blog. I am actually getting my hopes up this time ... (we'll see).
PS Thanks to MSimon, Tom Ligon, Joe Strout and others who have promoted the polywell.
