I think that Art Carlson already had something to say about Tri Alphas (Rostoker et al) approach.
Nothing favorable, I presume...

They had a public debate in Science Mag.

IIRC Art now says it's his favorite non-tokamak fusion design.

For the record, Rostacker's replies didn't make sense at the time and still don't. The CBFR won't fly. When I say I have a weak spot for Field-Reversed Configurations, I'm talking about the straight-up kind, with thermalized D-T fuel. An FRC reactor probably won't fly either, but I'd like to spend of few millions of somebody else's money to find out for sure.
