theres already been talk its not the higgs due to excess signals in some channels

anyone fancy explaining two things to me :

a) why does it decay differently each time anyway

b) if it decays so quickly, how come theres a universal field of it

Around the same time, there is a claimed observation of dark matter, which got a bit overshadowed by the claimed observation of the Higgs:

I guess I disagree that this "observation" is anything fundamentally different than "observations" we've had for decades. This is a gravitational effect that cannot be explained by visible matter. In other words, another manifestation of the problem that led to the postulation of dark matter to begin with. This isn't even the first time gravitational lensing has been attributed dark matter-- they've been observing excess lensing from galaxy clusters for some time.

I suppose the structure of the lensing (in the form of a filament) may be something new that coincides with dark matter theory, but personally I will only consider dark matter "observed" when dark matter particles are detected on Earth.

Right. I dislike how dark matter (and dark energy) is presumed to exist. Dark matter is named and spoken of as if the existence of it is a fact.

Until an actual particle or more of such substance is actually observed, science should simply state that we don't know why there are these observed gravitational forces that do not match the visible matter configuration. Some unknown substance and form of energy we have never observed may be responsible, but we don't know what, if anything, it is.

Agreed, and for the convenience of not always having to tediously repeat all that uncertainty, they could give the unknown stuff a mysterious but catchy name.

Did Scientists Actually Find Two Higgs Bosons?

Image

When scientists originally found ol' higgy, there was a bit of a strange blip that's still confusing: the particle was decaying into two photons more often than it should. Now researchers at the Atlas experiment have clarified the findings some, but the result is still puzzling. There are two peaks in the data which seem to indicate two different Bosons at two statistically different masses.

i've found plenty of higgs bosons. And by "higgs bosons" of course i'm referring to little scraps of paper i tore off and wrote "higgs boson" on and scattered around my desk to be found again later.

also i read somewhere that the confidence level is only 2 sigma so far. much lower than that of my little desktop experiment.

CERN Built a Star Gate to Awaken the Egyptian God Osiris

Image
Conspiracy theorists tried to sue CERN in 2008 for almost sucking the entire planet into a black hole, but another idea is far more creative. Turns out, the occult scientists at CERN are building a star gate to revive Osiris, ancient Egyptian god of the dead. And they have photographic proof: A statue of the Hindu god Shiva stands at the entrance to the LHC.

Stephen Hawking warns God particle has potential to 'end world'

The 72-year-old cosmologist said Higgs boson could become unstable at very high energy levels, which would lead to a "catastrophic vacuum decay" causing space and time to collapse and that there would not be any warning to the danger, the Daily Express reported.

I *TOLD* you it was dangerous. :)

Researchers place Higgs boson discovery in doubt
http://phys.org/news/2014-11-bicep2-hig ... overy.html
Their conclusion is that a TC Higgs is predicted by Technicolor Theory that is consistent with expected physical properties, is low mass and has an energy level – 125 GeV – indistinguishable from the resonance now considered to be the Standard Model Higgs. Theirs is a composite particle and it does not impart mass upon everything.

I prefer Steins;Gate's story when it comes to CERN (SERN) ;)

"A particle so evil it's very existence threatens mankind!"
I thought that was Di-Hydrogen Monoxide:
