Unfortunately, the LHC doesn't get to full power till 2014, though some arguments based on the electroweak parameters suggest the Higgs boson should be found below 1.4 TeV -- and some people are already interpreting the LHC data as having found it (officially, that announcement most likely won't happen until 2012).

I'm still holding out hope for holeums, myself.

Actually it's a bit more than "small" news for this is the first time that Woodward has been getting consistent results that are well above his ARC-Lite Torque Pendulum's seismic noise platform of ~0.3 uN. And he now thinks he understands the phase relationships as expressed in these very nonlinear PZT ceramics between the 1-omega mass fluctuation and 2-omega force rectification drive signals to the point of seeing a way forward. I.e., the engineering of M-E based thrusters can now start in earnest per Woodward. Of course the phrase "It's just engineering" is fraught with many land minds of its own, :), but Woodward is of the opinion that he knows enough now to actually build the next M-E drive prototype that should produce at least an order of magnitude higher thrust than the current PZT unit’s ~1.0 uN as described in this 05/31/2011 PZT-Stack report.

Paul, when do you think the experiment will get to a stage of 'pulling the plug', so to speak, and sticking an internal supply within the intertial frame of the 'thrusted' parts?

As I understand, the new unit will run off a LiPo internal battery.

This is excellent news!

We should understand from this post and paper, then, the the next device will operate from a battery--self powered and fully contained within the chamber--and produce approx 10uN of thrust?

NBF has some more on this as well! Seems like Woodward claims to have repeatable and reversable thrust. This would be really cool! I hope it can turn out to actually work.

Guys:

I'm not sure what Dr. Woodward’s next experiment will entail, but after he comes back to CSUF from CO next September from his summer sabbatical, and dependent on his health then, he will probably pick up where he left off this work, but using higher frequency amplifiers and coupling transformers needed to increase the amplitude of the 2-omega force rectification signal that is now being severely attenuated by the bandwidth limits of the in-use Carvin audio amplifiers and homemade matching transformers.

BTW, it is I who am working on a battery powered, self-contained 2.0 MHz MLT that is still in pieces on my dining room table. I managed to pick up a 5-month contract over at JSC a month ago to help pay the bills, so I'm back to working part time on my favorite passion. When it will be done is now toward the end of this year.

This project does seem high risk and high payoff. Shouldn't we put our money where our mouths are?
