Cross field diffusion should still be slowed by stronger fields, so stronger fields is usually better.
Well, the Navy is already building superconducting electric motors for shipboard propulsion and reducing the volume by nearly 80% over normal conductor motors.
If we can get superconductor magnets for polywell working, then it becomes a lot easier to use them on smaller scale SSTO vehicles.
