Re: EM Drive

I think the chart shows it decelerating at about 10^-6 ms-2, though I'd very much welcome a second opinion.

If that's right a milli-newton should easily correct that acceleration.

Re: EM Drive

Why do you assume they don’t expect them to work? Either: 1) They expect it to work (rightly or wrongly) 2) Something else (so its a scam) I can’t think of any sane reason to put it on a satellite in case 2. So I’m tempted to conclude that 1 must be true. However, I was wondering if others had a be...

Re: EM Drive

Can anybody speculate on what they might be trying to do if they don’t expect it to work?

Re: ZAP Energy News

Chill! No one said it was a scam.

We just understand better if we consider erosion an important problem they are working on, rather than something which can be dismissed as detail.

Re: ZAP Energy News

They mention electrode feed-through, transpiration cooling, and a liquid metal surface layer. As I read it they have ideas but not a design yet.

Re: ZAP Energy News

3 kg per hour erosion of graphite cathode is quite a number. With 200MWh of power to pay for that, it sounds very significant. Sounds like they need some orders of magnitude of mitigation.

Thanks: so, barring something surprising, the 2028 Nucor power will be 50MW units, I surmise.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Yet undetermined. They can generally build these machines as big as they want. So it it could be one or 10 or anything in between. Real hard to believe that $/KWh and is not a function of size. There is surely an optimal size. Staff/control systems feel like they ought to give economies of scale. I...

Re: Kronos Energy - simulations only?

I'm sorry. They have a website kronosfusionenergy.com that just screams 'scam'. I didn't bother clicking on 'buy a fusion energy generator'...

I think they actually put the cross-section data for DT,DD, DHe3 upside-down...

This is actually a deal more interesting and informative, though still brief: https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2022/08/16/2499509/0/en/Carl-Weggel-Joins-Kronos-Fusion-Energy-and-Designs-S-M-A-R-T-a-Revolutionary-Fusion-Energy-Generator-Being-Built-by-Kronos-Fusion-Energy.html Seems like at...

Re: LK-99

On an optimistic note, a casual observer would assume that taking an HTSC superconducting tape and replacing the ReBCo layer with another substance might be quite straightforward. I recall it took years for the HTSC superconductors to be formed into something like wire. It doesn’t feel like we’d nee...

I posted a question on their contact page.

You may well be right, but it has the feel of a bad surprise for them.
