It is not by accident. The enemies have a very good system of influence going. Sad, but true. This means that our most serious problems have little-to-nothing to do with technology and nearly everything to do with politics, as in, it's time for us to start giving our elected officials a very hard s...

Here is what I think is "falsifiable" in the eyes of the Navy. The plant must be able to start from power generated by a V-12 Caterpillar diesel. Once started, it must supply enough power to sustain itself plus the power needed to run the Navy's latest version of an AEGIS cruiser. Oh, and it will ha...

Re: whiffle-ball theory is not falsifiable

On the experimental side, there is no published, robust evidence that anything unusual is happening at all. What are we doing here? Not enough, from what I can see. Here is how I see it. If this whiffle ball thing will not work, then we need to stop spending money on fusion and start spending money...

Fair enough! Just remember that you will have to change that water out regularly or run it through treatment every day or so. Demin water likes metals. It starts dissolving them fairly quickly.

Our Dear Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, just sent a funding bill to the Senate that allotted $50 billion to Nasa. I agree, NASA would/should be keenly interested in a BFR, but what would they be willing to kill to get the money? Okay, they probably could find something . It's a matter of finding the right p...

Opening and shutting valves quickly enough might well be done easily, but what about shutting down and restarting the pumps? As best as I can understand this beast, you have to keep the feed very precisely balanced with the exhaust while making certain that all the electrical stuff does its job. Don...

Call me unduly ambitious, but if the BFR turns out to be workable, there is no reason for us to leave this gravity well just drop back down into the Martian gravity well. The real money is out in the Kuiper Belt. Mind you, I would not really object very much to a mission to Mars. I'll take what I ca...

I have looked at all the fusion reactor designs I could find. None of them seem to be all that promising. Nearly all of them look like something Rube Goldberg dreamed up while he was high on a mix of THC, steroids and California wine. American boffins have been working on a way to fuse D-D or D-T si...

There might be untapped sources of funding in the Air Force and Army. All three branches of the military could use a power source like this one. All three of them would love to be free of DOE. The drawback to military funding is that someone somewhere in those organizations would likely want to clas...

BTW heat transfer of 1 Mw per sq m is not child's play. Especially if you have to keep a volume 6" away at 20K. .3 Mw per sq m is considered "normal". How much water / coolant would be needed to rush through that square meter per second to transfer the heat? 100 to 200 gpm or about 400 to 800 l/min...

DOE

The "go-to" guy at DOE is a fellow named Rod O'Conner. He is Stephen Chu's Chief of Staff and, is or was, President of the Ansari X Prize organization. He also organized the Democratic Convention in L.A. Bear in mind that the BFR will compete with and will likely drive many existing products and sys...
